Annie Mitten - Ravens Cash Fantasy

Annie Mitten smiles as she claims her Travel with the Team
prize playing Ravens Cash Fantasy.

As dictated by the laws of mathematics, in any particular Maryland Lottery game, the odds may not be exactly in your favor. Still, the fact remains that someone has to win whatever grand prize is at stake. In cases like the Ravens Cash Fantasy scratch-off, to win a great prize, skill is out of the equation; it takes a little bit of effort and luck has to be on your side.

For Annie Mitten from Windsor Mill, MD, luck being on her side is a bit of an understatement. In fact, “Lady Luck” may become her new nickname.

Last year, a Lottery official called Mitten to inform her that she had won a featured prize for the Ravens Cash Fantasy scratch-off and would be joining the Ravens, on their team plane, for a trip to Cleveland to watch the team play the Browns.

“Not many people get the opportunity to actually fly on the team plane with all of the players,” Mitten said. “The food on the plane was unreal! I think we probably gained 10 pounds in just one weekend; there was food everywhere.”

When food wasn’t being served, Mitten was greeted in the back of the plane by some of her favorite Ravens’ players.

“Everybody was just so nice and friendly, just really down to earth,” she said when reflecting back on meeting Ray Rice, Torrey Smith and Ray Lewis.

“There was so many of them but I just love Ray Rice,” said Mitten. “If you didn’t know that he was a football star, he’s just like an everyday person. [The players] are just so down to earth, it was really nice.”

In a coincidence defying all of the aforementioned laws of mathematics, the excitement Mitten felt after being chosen for the Cleveland trip was about to be replicated.

She answered her phone at work one day and once again, a Lottery official was on the other end.

Mitten remembers the lottery official saying, “You’re not going to believe this. Are you sitting down?”

This time, Mitten learned she had won season tickets for the 2012 football season.

Screaming louder than she does when Ray Lewis dances his way onto the field at M&T Bank Stadium, she had to ask the official to hold while she caught her breath.

“It paid to play and that’s the only way you’re going to win,” she said. “How do you expect to win anything if you don’t buy a ticket?”

In addition to buying tickets, Mitten also networked to improve her odds.

“People who knew I was playing knew I was on a mission and they would save me their ticket stubs to enter online,” she said. “I knew I bought well over 100 tickets on my own.”

When she isn’t purchasing Ravens Cash Fantasy tickets, Mitten is doing her best Ray Rice impression, dodging inquiries from friends and family about her tickets.

“Everybody was emailing, texting and calling me saying, ‘if you can’t make it to a game…’ and then I immediately cut them off and say, ‘no I’ll be making it to the game!’” she said.

“I think my husband would have a fit, he’s a Ravens fanatic and he was probably more excited than I was.”

Mitten was able to check out where she’ll be sitting this upcoming season as the Ravens made their home debut during a preseason game this past Friday against the Detroit Lions. While she enjoys attending any Ravens game, she has the team’s December 2nd matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers circled on her calendar.

“People ask me if I’m going to use my tickets to the Steelers and I say, ‘are you kidding?’”

While watching the season unfold, Mitten hopes the team can stay healthy and doesn’t want to see them suffer another major injury like the one that befell Terrell Suggs during the offseason.

“I really would like them to go to the Super Bowl. I think they’re going to do well,” she said.

Ravens Cash Fantasy scratch-off tickets went on sale August 6 and once again, Mitten is trying to defy the odds and continue her streak of good luck. So far, she’s already purchased more than 20 tickets and plans to buy even more.

“I’ve already started buying them and getting my ticket stubs together,” Mitten said. “I’ve already gone online and put in quite a few for the next drawing.”

Even though she’s been lucky so far, Mitten doesn’t believe her luck has run out yet.

“The computer picks the ticket. I figured my chances are just as good that I could possibly win something again.”

The next Ravens Cash Fantasy drawing will take place Tuesday, September 4 with the following prizes:

  • One (1) season ticket package for the 2013 season
  • Five (5) trips to Travel with the Team to Kansas City Chiefs
  • Two (2) Ring of Honor induction packages vs. Cleveland Browns
  • Five (5) Tailgate Party packages vs. Dallas Cowboys
  • One (1) Premium Game Day package vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Five (5) Premium Game Day packages vs. New England Patriots
  • Four (4) Fan of the Game winners – New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, and Dallas Cowboys

Windsor Mill Couple Wins $50,000 Playing MONOPOLY™ Scratch-off

Elisa Borjas - Monopoly

The Borjas family celebrate their winning MONOPOLY™ moment.

During a brief visit to a High’s convenience store in Ellicott City earlier this week, Elisa Borjas decided to surprise her boyfriend with a Lottery ticket. She chose the new MONOPOLY ™ scratch-off game because she’d had some luck playing it in the recent past. Minutes later, that sudden impulse dramatically improved the mood in the store and the fortunes of the young couple.

Elisa and her boyfriend have long enjoyed playing instant tickets, scratching them together at home at least once a week. When he began shouting and jumping up and down after playing his MONOPOLY ™ game, Elisa knew immediately what had happened. “We were stunned,” she told Lottery officials. “We couldn’t really talk, but there was a lot of yelling.” The store’s employees and the other customers joined in the celebration.

The couple has not yet decided how the winnings will fit into their lives, though a new car is a definite possibility.

Elisa found her Lottery luck at the High’s convenience store at 64 Frederick Road in Ellicott City.

Holiday Spirit Kicks in After Big Win

Vanessa Freeman - Silver and Gold

Vanessa Freeman gets into the holiday spirit after
winning $50,000 Silver & Gold prize.

Baltimore County Woman Wins $50,000 playing Silver and Gold Scratch-Off

“I haven’t even put up holiday decorations yet,” said Vanessa Freeman. With less than two weeks until Christmas, a $50,000 win on the Silver and Gold scratch-off has spurred the Baltimore County woman to action. “I’m putting my Christmas tree up today,” the happy winner told Lottery officials.

It was early yesterday morning when luck shined on Vanessa. As she does every morning, she bought one $20 scratch-off ticket and played it in the store. The game is played by matching your numbers to the lucky numbers. Vanessa scratched the first line matching one number revealing a $10,000 prize. “I asked the cashier, ‘how many zeroes is that’,” she said. “He told me to keep scratching because I might have even more matching numbers.” And indeed she did. She matched five numbers, each with a $10,000 prize, totaling $50,000. “I just screamed and screamed,” said the 55-year-old player.

Vanessa first shared the news with her soon-to-be-married daughter and then she called her husband. “He didn’t believe me and came up to the store to see for himself,” she said with a laugh.

The lucky lady said she had a feeling that something good was going to happen. The mother-of-two and grandmother-of-one will use the winnings for a new roof, her daughter’s wedding and Christmas. The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-11 Store, located at 2701 N. Rolling Rd. in Windsor Mill.

Windsor Mill Man Shocked by $50,000 Scratch-Off Win

Mark Alford from Windsor Mill smiles for the camera after cashing in his
$50,000 winning Black Jack scratch-off.

First Top-Prize Winner for Brand New Game

Mark Alford was in a pretty good mood when he stopped at a nearby gas station this past weekend for a snack and a Lottery ticket. He left a few minutes later in a much better mood, thanks to the Lottery’s new Black Jack instant game.

Mark is an excavator, working every day with heavy equipment. In his infrequent free time he enjoys the Lottery’s jackpot games and scratch-off tickets, especially those with card-game themes. “I saw the Black Jack game when I walked in and asked for it right away,” he told officials. Scratching his ticket in his truck, as he does with all of his instant games, Mark revealed all the numbers – but not the related dollar amounts. “I like to look for wins before knowing what each is worth. It’s more exciting that way.”

The Black Jack ticket revealed a win in the fourth of its ten “hands.” Now came the moment of truth for Mark, the time to see just how much he’d won. “I scratched it hoping for $5 or $10,” he admitted. “When I saw what was there I literally could not believe my eyes. I knew I was reading it incorrectly.” What he saw, of course, was his $50,000 prize. “I still don’t believe it four days later.”

The Alfords recently had a baby so this win comes at a very good time for them. If he can wrangle it, Mark tells us, he might also try to add a motorcycle to the family motor pool. Everybody knows that a family with a new baby really should have a motorcycle for quick diaper runs, right? While he probably won’t be getting there on a motorcycle, Mark will continue to get his Lottery tickets at the River Hill Sunoco, 5015 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville.

Baltimore County Tow Truck Driver Hauls Off Lottery Prize

Wins $50,000 Prize Playing Super Bonus Crossword Game

Michael Hamilton - Super Bonus CrosswordMichael Hamilton, of Windsor Mill, got his holiday season started with a bang last week, with a $50,000 win.  The 27-year-old truck driver and fan of Maryland Lottery instant games stopped by Lottery Headquarters to pick up the top prize he won playing the Super Bonus Crossword scratch-off game.

Michael picked out the winner on Tuesday night at the 7-11 at 7410 Windsor Mill Road in Baltimore on his way home from work.  He chose the ticket after having had luck with it in recent weeks.  “I bought two, one for me and one for my wife,” Michael told officials.  “We scratched them together and I knew right away that I’d won.”  He just wasn’t sure as to how much he’d won, “As I kept seeing more words, we got more and more excited.”

There was lots of celebrating but little sleep in the Hamilton household that night.  It took them a while to believe it was true and then to share the news with friends and family.  “No one believed us, everyone thought we were joking.”  Michael and his wife plan to make this Christmas especially memorable for their family.  “We’re going to share this happiness with everyone we love.”

Lottery Hits a Home Run with “Hit It Here” Orioles Promotion [VIDEO]

The Lottery has once again teamed up with the Baltimore Orioles for an exciting second-chance contest.  Lottery players who mail in two non-winning Reese’s™ scratch-off tickets will have the chance to become a Fan of the Game.

Beginning June 4th, a Fan of the Game will be randomly selected for every remaining 2010 Orioles home game and will be announced during the top of the first inning on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), the official television network of the Orioles.  If an Orioles player hits a home run that hits the Maryland Lottery Hit It Here sign in centerfield, the Fan of the Game selected for that game will win $100,000.  If a home run is not hit, or if an Orioles home run that is hit does not hit the Hit It Here sign, the Fan of the Game for that game will win $100 worth of Reese’s™ scratch-off tickets and entry into the Grand-Prize drawing.  At the end of the promotion, a Grand-Prize winner will be selected to win a trip for two to Orioles Spring Training in Sarasota, FL.
