Strategy and Dedication Result in Win for Prince George’s County Man

Henry Bourne - Bonus Match 5

Upper Marlboro resident Henry Bourne shows off his $50,000 win.

Wins $50,000 on Bonus Match 5

Henry Bourne, a building supervisor from Upper Marlboro, is a devoted Lottery player with a careful method when choosing his numbers. Bourne purchased several tickets last Friday, put them in his wallet and forgot about them. Unbeknownst to him, the Bonus Match 5 ticket in his wallet was worth $50,000.

Bourne told Lottery officials that he always checks to see what numbers haven’t been lucky in a while before playing, “I chose these numbers after seeing they hadn’t been called in a long time. I figured that would be a good strategy.” After checking his ticket on the Lottery website six days later, Bourne realized just how well his strategy worked. “As I was checking my ticket at work, I saw I had one match, then two, then three,” he told Lottery officials. “I was shaking when I realized all five numbers matched.”

Now that Bourne has won big, he plans to continue playing the Lottery at the restaurant where he purchased his winning ticket. “I was buying tickets somewhere else, but I think I found my new lucky spot,” said the father of one. “I play every day, so hopefully I can win something like this again.”

The lucky winner plans to use his winnings to pay off some bills and take a couple of days off work. “I can’t wait to get away for a well-deserved weekend,” said Bourne happily.  The winning ticket was purchased at Tucker’s Restaurant, located at 9205 Marlboro Pike in Upper Marlboro.

Upper Marlboro Grandmother Wins $50,000 With Pay Day Doubler

You wouldn’t believe Upper Marlboro resident, Barbara Holland, was a 72-year-old great-grandmother as she danced into Lottery Headquarters.  The enthusiastic winner was claiming a $50,000 Pay Day Doubler scratch-off top prize.

“This was really unexpected,” said the grandmother-of-seven and great grandmother-of-six. “You never know what tomorrow will bring.”

The retired nurse bought the ticket last week right after mailing an entry in for the Lottery’s Medal Madness contest. Barbara bought that specific ticket because she had been lucky with that game in the past. She scratched the tickets at home, with the second one revealing the win. “I saw the doubler symbol and I thought it was a $50 win, but as I continued to scratch, I saw another doubler symbol and then beneath the symbols zeroes and more zeroes,” she said. “I just screamed and screamed.”

After regaining her composure, the lucky winner had her daughter double check the ticket, along with the cashier who had sold her the ticket.  It was then confirmed that she was holding a $50,000 winner.

The winner plans to use the prize money to pay off some bills and have a little fun. The winning ticket was sold at My Hicks Liquor Store, located at 11201 Crain Highway in Cheltenham.

$10,000 prize is doubled to $20,000 with the Lottery’s $2 Top Prize Doubler promotion

Lottery officials greeted a visibly shocked Hernan Diaz Giron recently as he walked into the “Winners’ Lounge” at Lottery Headquarters. Diaz Giron, who came to the Lottery’s Claim Center to claim what he thought was a $10,000 top prize, had just found out that his prize was significantly more; double, in fact. When told that his prize was twice what he expected because of the Lottery’s $2 Top Prize Doubler promotion, the winner softly squeaked, “Wow!”

Diaz Giron, a frequent scratch-off and numbers game player, purchased a $2 Aces scratch-off last Monday began to scratch immediately. As soon as he saw the first ace symbol in the play area, his heart began to race and excitement started to build. “I scratched the first one, and I said ‘Oh, wow’ and then I scratched the second one and said ‘Oh, my gosh,” he told Lottery officials. Once Mr. Diaz Giron showed his wife the ticket, she asked “Did you win?” “I think so.” After double and then triple-checking, the couple finally allowed themselves to believe they had won.

Mr. Giron explained to Lottery officials that his son’s birthday is on July 4th, and that he will celebrate it by having a party at their home. He has also said that he plans to have a nice, relaxing weekend with his family and pay their bills in advance for the next few months. The winning ticket was purchased at the Hillendale BNW on 11017 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Upper Marlboro Man Triples His Mega Millions Win with the Megaplier

$10,000 third-tier prize turns into $30,000

The Maryland Lottery player who arrived at Lottery Headquarters this morning could be considered a winner on two fronts—first lucky in love with his recent engagement and on Friday, when he matched four numbers from that evening’s drawing, plus the Mega Ball, to win the third-tier Mega Millions prize.

The happy man, who is an avid Lottery fan, had relatives coming into town but found time for his usual Lottery play. He purchased a Quick Pick ticket with the Megaplier. The next day he went to the store and checked his ticket on the Lottery scanner, which immediately instructed him to go to Lottery Headquarters. It was then that he realized he was $30,000 richer. “I play this game a lot,” said the winner. “But when I discovered I’d won $30,000, I was shocked.”

Claims Diamond Dazzler Bingo Top Prize

Robert Blades loves the Lottery. He plays frequently, enjoying a variety of games – Pick 3, Pick 4, Mega Millions, Powerball and, of course, scratch-offs. So, you would think that he’d realize when he had hit the big one. Yet, it took the 59-year-old quite awhile to realize that he was $150,000 richer.

“First I thought that I’d won $75,” said Robert. When the Lottery machine at the store where he purchased his tickets kept reading, “See Lottery” the clerk told Robert, “I’m telling you, this is a nice chunk of money.”

Robert then proceeded to the Lottery’s Lanham office, now thinking that he had won $10,000. It was there that the woman asked, “Do you know how much you won”? She then pointed to the top of the ticket and the $150,000 top prize. An incredulous Robert said that he was “totally stoked.”

In order to claim the large prize, Robert made his final trip to Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore. “It still hasn’t quite hit me,” said Robert. The accountant and tax professional intends to use his new found wealth to buy a BMW for himself as well as a car and refrigerator for his sister-in-law. He also intends to purchase a food truck for his son, who is a chef. “He’s going to be one happy camper,” said Robert. He’ll be particularly glad to discover that the $10,000 prize his father told him about is actually 15 times larger.

The winning ticket was purchased at Hampton Mall Exxon, located at 8901 Central Ave. in Capitol Heights. Many prizes still remain on the Diamond Dazzler Bingo scratch-off including two $150,000 top prizes and eight $10,000 prizes.

Winning Weekend for Lottery Players

Three Big Wins in Two Days

Lottery officials reported this morning that a $1 million Powerball prize and two $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prizes were won over the weekend.  Saturday’s winning Powerball $200,000 second-tier prize was increased to $1 million as a result of playing the game’s Power Play option. For an extra dollar, Power Play can increase the prize up to five times. The wining ticket was purchased in Havre de Grace from Post Road Liquors, located at 1123 Revolution Street.  Officials expect more wins of this magnitude from Powerball when scheduled changes to the game begin on January 15, 2012.  The new $2 Powerball will raise all second-tier prizes to $1 million and jackpots will start at $40 million.

The weekend’s winning Bonus Match 5 tickets were both purchased at Giant grocery stores.  Saturday’s $50,000 win at the Giant store at 10480 Campus Way in Upper Marlboro was followed on Sunday by one at the Giant, located at 7940 Crain Highway in Glen Burnie.

Lottery winners have 182 days from the date of the win to claim their prizes.

$50,000 Winner Sends Picture Message to Wife of Winning Scratch-Off

Upper Marlboro man claims Cash Blowout top prize

An Upper Marlboro man entered Lottery Headquarters today with a winning $50,000 Cash Blowout scratch-off and a big smile on his face.  The Logistics Engineer, who buys scratch-offs regularly, said he “could hardly believe his eyes” when he matched one of his ‘winning numbers’ to the $50,000 prize listed below it.  “My wife was on her way back from out of town when I called to tell her about the win,” he said. “She didn’t believe me so I sent her a picture message from my phone of the ticket, and she called me back two minutes later saying ‘Oh my gosh, you did win!’”

The lucky man was on his usual grocery run, when he walked past a Lottery terminal at Giant when the Cash Blowout scratch-off caught his eye. “I scratched the ticket on the way back to my car, figuring if I won a few dollars I could just go back in and cash the ticket. I was never expecting it to be a $50,000 winner!”

The winnings could not have come at a more perfect time for the father-of-two.  His wife recently left her job to pursue her dreams of owning her own business.  “This money will mainly be used for equipment for my wife’s business,” he said.  The family has also planned a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida for next week. “Now I’ll have more money than I planned for the trip!” The winning ticket was purchased at Giant, located at 5700 Southeast Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro.
