$250,000 Mega Millions Ticket Claimed by Silver Spring Couple

It only took four days for a Silver Spring couple to claim their Mega Millions second-tier prize. The pair brought the winning ticket to Lottery headquarters on Tuesday ready to walk away with their $250,000 prize from last Friday’s Mega Millions drawing.

The couple has been playing the Lottery the same way for years. The 28-year-old wife always gives her husband money and asks him to pick up their Lottery tickets for the week. Then, once the drawings occur, they return to the store to check their tickets.

After scanning this ticket several times, they thought that the store’s scanner was broken. Every time they scanned the ticket a message appears instructing them to take their ticket to Lottery headquarters. “I had to ask the clerk if his machine was broken,” said the lucky man. “It just kept showing the same message.”

Perplexed, the store clerk took the ticket and scanned it himself. Then, to the couple surprise, the clerk informed the couple of their $250,000 windfall. They were still skeptical and looked up the winning numbers. Sure enough, they matched five numbers, only missing the Mega Ball.

The couple is planning a vacation to the Dominican Republic to celebrate their win. They also plan on paying off bills and starting an additional college fund for their 9-year-old son.

The lucky ticket was purchased from Columbia Road Exxon located at 12601 Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring.

The Price is Right for Debt Payoff, House Repairs and a Trip to Disney

Construction Worker Wins $50,000 with The Price is Right scratch-off

Price Is RightA Silver Spring man can finally surprise his daughters with a dream trip to Disney World, thanks to a Maryland Lottery scratch-off. The construction worker and frequent Lottery player scratched his way to a $50,000 The Price is Right scratch-off top prize.

“I don’t even plan on telling my daughters about the trip,” said the 47-year-old. “ I’m just going to surprise them.”

In addition to bringing the dream vacation to fruition, the father-of-two can also take his daughters to visit his mother back home in El Salvador. He has lived in the United States for 25 years, and was unable to visit his family in El Salvador for the first 18 years. During his upcoming two week visit, he will be bearing a very special gift — a brand new roof for his mother’s house.

“I knew I won something when scratching the ticket, but I didn’t know how much,” the winner told Lottery officials. “I was so nervous that I couldn’t even sleep that night.”

When asked about other plans for his winnings, he says that he’ll be paying off credit cards and taking care of his mother back home. The winning ticket was purchased at Wheaton Winery, located at 2211-B University Boulevard in Silver Spring. The Price is Right scratch off ticket still has two $50,000 top-prizes remaining. Silver Spring Man Employs Native System, Wins $250,000

Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of faith for incredible things to happen. An avid Maryland Lottery player in Silver Spring knew his time had finally come when he learned that he was the holder of a $250,000 second-tier Mega Millions ticket.

Everything began to fall into place for the lucky man when he called the Lottery’s winning numbers line to see if his Mega Millions ticket for March 12th was worth anything. “I listened to the numbers on the phone, and thought that they sounded familiar,” said the winner, who chose his numbers with the help of family.

As a native of Cameroon, the man instilled his confidence in the “Sou-Sou” concept that his native West African brethren believe in, where everyone will regularly pool money together and have a random Lottery drawing. As a result, the winner is a very confident Lottery player whose ultimate goal is to win a big jackpot.

The winner, who is married with three children, plans to purchase a new home with his big winnings, preferably in a location close to his three jobs. He also plans to save some of the money for the future. The winning ticket was purchased at the Woodmor Supermarket on Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

The soft-spoken woman told Lottery officials that she was overwhelmed when she saw that matching numbers staring back at her. “I was really excited, but I didn’t know what to believe,” she said.

After making a quick call to let her parents know that she had won $30,000, the 21-year-old put the ticket in an envelope for safe keeping. “Besides my parents I haven’t told anyone about my win,” the young woman said.

For now, the woman plans to save the money for a rainy day. There are four remaining top prizes on the Luck ticket. The woman found her lucky ticket at Aspen Hill Citgo at 13615 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.

Lucky ‘Strikes’ at White Oak Lanes

Brandy Moser - 10x Payday Payout

Brandy Moser poses with her big ‘Payout’

College student Bowled-over by $100,000 win on 10X Payday Payout scratch-off

During a night out last Saturday at White Oak Duckpin Lanes, 19-year-old Brandy Moser only set out to beat her boyfriend Paul’s bowling score, but wound up winning a whole lot more. Along with an awesome average, Brandy also scratched-off a winning 10X Payday Payout scratch-off, scoring a $100,000 top-prize.

Getting a lane was taking longer than usual, so to pass the time, Brandy purchased a scratch-off. Although she usually buys less expensive tickets, the Montgomery College student decided to splurge on a $10 scratch-off. Just as she started scratching the ticket Brandy uncovered a matching number, along with the prize amount of $100,000. The couple scanned the ticket several times and then checked it again with the cashier, before rushing home to put their valuable discovery somewhere safe. “I was nervous letting go of the ticket for the cashier to confirm the win,” said Brandy’s boyfriend.

When Brandy returned home, she surprised her parents with the win. “We were shocked. It’s really been a special week with the Lottery win, a Ravens Championship and the upcoming Chinese new year,” said her father, Jonathan. Once secure in a safe, she and Paul rolled on to high scoring games back at the bowling alley.

The winner plans to put her winnings into savings. She hopes that the funds will help with college tuition and other future expenses. The winning ticket was purchased at White Oak Duckpin Lanes on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring.

Super Gems Win Brings Joy to Nursing Student

Wins $50,000 on Super Gems Scratch-Off

Super GemsThe 20-year-old Montgomery County woman had no plans of purchasing a scratch-off ticket last week. In fact, the young woman rarely ever bought scratch-offs. After stopping for a drink, she decided to purchase a $5 Super Gems ticket on a whim after receiving disappointing news from her school’s financial aid department. Her last minute Super Gems splurge resulted in a $50,000 win.

At first, the young woman had a bit of buyer’s remorse. “I would normally never spend $5 on something like this,” she said shaking her head. “I’m always overly frugal, but I said, ‘what the heck’, bought the ticket and the rest is history.”

Anxious to check the ticket, she scratched it on her bus ride home and to her surprise saw something completely surprising. The pre-nursing student had uncovered $50,000 worth of matching numbers.  “After I added everything up, I just kept staring at the ticket,” she said. In her hands she held several semesters’ worth of tuition.

Right now, she plans to put a down payment on her car and pay for the remainder of her schooling. “This will really help me with tuition and bills; I still can’t believe this happened.” The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11 #22921 in Silver Spring.

Delayed Win Gives Silver Spring Man a “Second Chance”

Victor Serrano - Mega Millions

Victor Serrano of Silver Spring shows off his big win.

Wins $250,000 Mega Millions Prize

Victor Serrano’s Mega Millions ticket had been tucked inside his wallet for over a month when his father offered to check it at the store. When Serrano’s father returned, he told his son that he should probably have the ticket checked again due to an odd message that appeared on the scanner at the store. When the Silver Spring native went back the next day he saw that the forgotten ticket was actually worth $250,000.

The 22-year-old came into Lottery headquarters with a friend, eager to claim his winnings. The man, who works in auto collision repair, sees his huge win as a great opportunity to change his life. “This is a chance for me to have a new start,” he said. “It’s truly a blessing.”

Serrano, who had to take off work in order to claim his prize, said few people thought a win like this was possible. “I’ve told some close friends, but none of them really believe me,” he said laughing. “I’m sure they’ll believe me when I put my picture online with me holding the giant check!”

The modest 22-year-old said he plans on making a large payment on his mother’s home and wants to save the rest. “I’m not going to waste this money. As tempting as it is, I just can’t do that with this win,” he said. The winning ticket was sold at 7-11 #32975 at 9651 Washington Boulevard in Laurel.

“Gut Feeling” Leads to a Big Win

Silver Spring Woman Claims $50,000 Scratch-off Top Prize

Triple PayoutA Montgomery County woman visited Lottery headquarters last week to collect a scratch-off prize she had won after trusting her gut.  The Silver Spring native, an occasional Lottery player, had stopped in at a wine shop to get specific scratch-offs when something caught her eye. The Triple Payout scratch-off she bought paid itself off with a $50,000 top prize.

“It just popped out at me. There are a couple of games that I really like, that I’ve had luck with, but for some reason I thought I should give Triple Payout a try,” she told officials.  “I can’t explain it.  Something just told me that getting this game would be a good move.”  The sudden gut feeling to buy the ticket resulted in the purchase of a lifetime.

Our winner, an in-house caregiver, took the ticket home and checked it with her boyfriend.  “I went ballistic when I saw the dollar amount under my match,” she said. “My boyfriend was shocked into silence, but I was yelling and screaming.”

The winner told Lottery officials that the prize money will go into savings.  When prodded a little further, the woman also added with a smile, “Maybe a nice vacation, too.”  The Lottery retailer with a special on “gut feelings” was Wheaton Winery, 2211 University Boulevard in Silver Spring.
