A Quick Pick Leads to Quick Cash

Gaithersburg Man Wins 250,000 Mega Millions Prize

A 35-year-old man won a Mega Millions second-tier prize after deciding change up his routine and not play his regular numbers. Instead, he made the decision to purchase a Quick Pick ticket. That split-second decision quickly turned into a $250,000 Mega Millions win.

The Gaithersburg man was stunned when his ticket showed five-out-of-six winning numbers when he checked his numbers at the store the next day. “I immediately started to jump and scream after realizing I actually had a winning ticket” said the lucky winner. As people stood and watched the man celebrate his win, the store owner advised the man to go home to think about what he was going to do with his new fortune.

After calling his sister to share the news of the big win, the man was faced with the task of where to hide the ticket until he could bring it in to Lottery headquarters. He first tried putting the ticket inside of a thick book, but later decided it wasn’t a safe place as he could easily lose it between the pages. He then took the lucky ticket and hid it in his tool box. The ticket eventually ended up inside of a new oil filter.

He plans to use the money to pay off bills and start college funds for his nephews and nieces. The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11 located at 15821 Frederick Road in Rockville.

Wins top prize on Grand Slam scratch-off

$50 Grand SlamA 25-year-old Gaithersburg man visited Lottery headquarters yesterday to claim a $50,000 prize he’s been working toward for several years. Although he found his Grand Slam winning scratch-off several weeks ago, the smile on his face made it clear to all that the excitement of the win had not dimmed a bit.

“When I saw the match that gave me the $50,000 I was amazed. I’d been playing for so long without ever seeing anything like this,” he told officials.

The employee of a landscaping firm, who is originally from El Salvador, described himself as a big fan of all of Lottery games. “I’ve tried them all, but now the scratch-offs are my favorite.”

With his $50,000 prize, the lucky winner plans to pay bills and start a college fund for his young son. He will always have a warm place in his heart for the staff at the Kwik Stop Deli, located at 15104 Frederick Road in Rockville, the retailer that sold him his $50,000 winner.

Takes home Bonus Match 5 top prize

Silver Spring resident Asad Chaudhary was already running late to his cousin’s wedding in Virginia when he decided to make a quick pit stop to get a Bonus Match 5 ticket. The dedicated player wasn’t going to chance missing that evening’s drawing. It’s a good thing he was a few minutes late, because the 36-year-old’s ticket turned out to be a $50,000 top-tier winner.

Asad was completely shocked when he checked his ticket the next day. “I called everyone,” he laughed.” I called my wife, my uncle, my parents – everyone! It was such great news to be able to share.”

This Lottery win came at a very good time for the lucky winner whose family has been celebrating some momentous occasions. In addition to his cousin’s wedding, Asad’s family recently welcomed a new nephew. “This has just been such a great week for the family,” said Asad.

Asad knows exactly what he’ll be doing with his winnings. “The first thing I’m going to do is buy health insurance for my wife,” he told Lottery officials. “Then I’m taking her on a shopping trip to Kohl’s. We can take whatever is left with us to Las Vegas!” The winning ticket was purchased at the Aspen Shell at 4101 Aspen Hill Road in Rockville.

Loyalty Pays Off for$1.75 Million Multi-Match Winner

A 23-year-old has become Rockville’s latest millionaire after playing Multi-Match last week. Since turning 18, the man has become an ardent fan of the game, buying tickets for every drawing.  That dedication was rewarded last week with a $1.75 million jackpot win.

The lucky winner has had several $1,000 wins courtesy of the twice-a-week Multi Match drawing. “I like the other jackpot games, but Multi-Match is my favorite,” said the winner. “I’ve had good luck with it.”

The man told Lottery officials that he usually checks the results several days after the drawing, so it took a while for him to realize he had won.  “When I checked my numbers and saw they matched, I was sure that I was dreaming,” he said. “There was no way it was real.”  After his father confirmed that he wasn’t seeing things, he began to get excited.

The restaurant employee has no immediate plans for how this $1.75 million prize will fit into his life, though travel is a definite possibility.  He does intend to keep playing Multi-Match, and will likely purchase his tickets from the Food Stop at 4820 Boiling Brook Parkway in Rockville, which is where he found his first jackpot win.

New Scratch Game Gets Great Review from Germantown Man

Wins $100,000 Playing Fast Cash

Steven Riddle only plays Lottery games when the spirit strikes him. Well, a visit by that spirit last week coincided with a coffee stop and together they produced a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off win.

“My dad stopped for coffee and I went in the store with him,” Steven told officials. His father, a frequent player, pointed out a brand new instant game, Fast Cash. “I just decided to try it – I can’t tell you why.” As the 27-year-old scratched his ticket in the store, he quickly realized that something special was happening as more and more of the winning symbols were showing up. “To say that I couldn’t believe my eyes is an understatement. My knees buckled, I felt like I was about to pass out.” Steven’s father, upon learning the news, made sure everyone in the store (maybe in the entire neighborhood) knew what was happening. “There was a bit of yelling.”

Steven, a movie theater employee, plans to get a new car for Christmas and invest the remainder of his winnings. He’ll also be paying for his dad’s coffee for a while. Fast Cash luck found Steven at the 7-11 convenience store at 785 Rockville Pike in Rockville. The lucky game, which arrived in stores earlier this month, still has four $100,000 prizes available.

Rockville Couple Claims $775,000 Multi-Match Prize

Third Multi-Match Jackpot Hit in Just Two Months’ Time

Multi-MatchPlaying Multi-Match is a weekly ritual for the happy twosome who arrived at Lottery Headquarters to claim their big prize. “It’s a way of life,” said the 83-year-old winner. The couple buys $20 worth of Multi-Match tickets each week and also has a Multi-Match subscription. This week’s purchase of Quick Pick tickets had a very different result than prior plays when they matched all six numbers, 11, 17, 20, 26, 32 and 37, to hit the Multi-Match jackpot. While the annuity was $775,000, the winners chose to take the cash option which totaled $525,104 when adding in another $104 for wins on other lines.

Describing themselves as “faithful players” the winners said they were “elated” and “surprised” when asked about the reaction to their newfound wealth. Although thrilled to have won,  their windfall was tempered by recent news of family medical issues.

Thus far, they have not shared the good news with anyone, but the parents of three and grandparents of 11, definitely intend to share the money. “The winnings will go into trust funds for the education of our 11 grandchildren,” said the semi-retired winner.

The winning ticket was purchased at Giant #327, located at 7142 Arlington Rd. in Bethesda.  This jackpot marks the third big Multi-Match winner so far in 2011.  In January, a Hagerstown man claimed a $650,000 prize and an anonymous woman claimed a $550,000 winning ticket.  Winners have 182 days from the drawing date to claim their prize.

Multi-Match drawings can be viewed on Monday and Thursday nights at 11:22 PM on WBAL-TV Channel 11.  A $2 purchase delivers three lines of numbers and ten ways to win.
