Hits Big on Three Racetrax Tickets

Back in March, on an ordinary Thursday, something extraordinary happened to a Bel Air man. The 56-year-old decided to play Racetrax and walked away a big winner, not just once, but three times! The man said had two tickets worth $27,780 and a third worth $9,260 for a combined total of $64,820.

The father-of-two adult children wanted to take his time claiming his winning tickets. “I was here a few weeks back to claim the $9,260 on the first ticket,” he said. “I decided to wait a bit before cashing this ticket.”

Among the tickets he bought that day were a winning Trifecta Box and two winning Trifecta tickets with a Bonus. The lucky man said to remember his face, because he would be back sometime later to cash his final $27,780 ticket.

With his winnings, the player said he plans to help his family, pay some bills and take a vacation. The winning ticket was purchased at Edgewood Amoco located at 2201 Pulaski Highway in Edgewood, Maryland.

A Wreath of FranklinsWhen a Towson man asked to leave work early today, he explained to his boss that he wanted to claim his $4,000 Racetrax winnings in person at Lottery headquarters.  The man, who delivers mail for a Baltimore County agency, had no idea that a last-minute stop would net him an additional $100,000 in Lottery winnings.

The anonymous winner explained to Lottery officials that he knew he didn’t have to claim his Racetrax winnings at Lottery headquarters, but wanted to ask a few questions.  After making his last work delivery at Martin State Airport, he stopped at a nearby convenience store to buy his daily Pick 3 and Pick 4 numbers and cashed in winnings from a previous day.  “I had eight dollars to spend,” he explained, “so I chipped in another two dollars and bought one A Wreath of Franklins ticket.  I was about to claim a $4,000 Racetrax prize so I thought I’d spoil myself!”  The man started scratching in the store and explained:  “I saw $10,000, then another $10,000, then another $10,000 and they just kept appearing!”  By the time all of his winnings were revealed, the ticket showed ten $10,000 prizes on the ticket.

The winner, a single man in his sixties, said that he plans to pay off all of his debt and said that he will now allow himself the thought of retiring sometime soon.  “I wouldn’t let myself even think of retiring because I had too much debt to pay off,” he said.  “This will more than pay the debt off – what a relief!”  He will put the rest in the bank and plans to write his son a nice-sized check so his three grandchildren can enjoy the holidays.

The winning ticket was purchased at Eddie B’s Market, at 1006 Wilson Point Road in the Middle River area of Baltimore County.

Harriett Kennedy danced her way into Lottery Headquarters this afternoon to claim her huge Racetrax prize.  The 52-year-old Capitol Heights resident played the Lottery monitor-style game two days ago, bringing home a $64,116 prize.

The lucky winner went to her local store to play Racetrax and Keno.  She accidentally submitted more playslips than she meant to and asked the clerk if she could cancel a few tickets.  Fortunately for her, the games had already started, so it was too late to cancel the tickets.

Harriett was watching Keno when she decided to glance at the Racetrax screen.  “I didn’t have my glasses on but thought I saw the 7, 12 and 11 horse finishing the race, so I took my ticket up to the cashier to check,” she said.  “When she told me that it was too high to cash, my knees starting buckling.”

After multiplying the dollar amount by the four-time bonus, Harriett’s ticket was worth $64,116.  With her winnings, the Metro worker plans to pay off some of her mortgage and car, and take a vacation.  She would also like to give some money to her father-in-law, who accompanied her to claim the prize, and her grown children.

The winning ticket was purchased at Penn Station Liquors, located at 5634 Silver Hill Rd. in District Heights.

Medal Madness Promotion’s Bronze Medal Winner Claims $25,000 Prize

The summer games may have ended, but the winning continued at Maryland Lottery headquarters when a still-surprised Shawn Davis arrived on Friday afternoon to claim her Bronze Medal prize. Shawn’s envelope was drawn from over 100,000 entries received in the Medal Madness promotion, which required players to collect bronze, medal and gold logos on their Lottery terminal tickets.

Shawn, an avid Lottery player, said that she was initially suspicious when she received a letter from the Lottery via UPS informing her that she had won.  “I had completely forgotten that I entered the contest,” she said.  “I also didn’t think you would send a letter about it!”  When Lottery officials told Davis that she hadn’t put a phone number on her entry, the details came flooding back: “Now I remember…I didn’t think I had enough space for my phone number so I just put my address on there.”

Shawn, who was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by her husband of 14 years, said that the letter didn’t state the amount of money she had won making her further suspicious.  “I checked the Lottery’s website for my name before believing that the letter was real.” She said.  “When I saw my name and how much I won, I was stunned!”  Home on vacation from work when discovering her good fortune, Shawn was able to come to the Lottery’s Claim Center the very next day.  “It was meant to be,” she said.

The lucky winner and her husband who both work for the state have two adult children and two teenage grandchildren. When asked what they were planning on doing with the money, they said in unison, “Put it in the bank.”  Shawn added, “I am going to take my husband out to a restaurant, though.  I’m thinking Bonefish Grill.”  Her husband replied, “Nope, a big IHOP breakfast is good for me.”  Shawn then jumped in, “I think we can afford to do both.”

“I’m ‘loving’ my Lottery win,” said William Loving II, chuckling at his apropos moniker as he celebrated his newfound wealth. The 28-year-old Washington, D.C. resident is only an occasional Lottery player, but on April 12th, he had a “weird feeling.”

That strange intuition coupled with his wife feeling under the weather led to his trot into the winner’s circle. “My wife and I were intending to go out to dinner in D.C.,” said William. “She wasn’t feeling well, so we ended up not going.”

The couple was returning home, when William decided to use the money he would have spent on dinner to follow his hunch and play his lucky Lottery number 11 and the other two closest to it – 10 and 12. “I thought, ‘man, why not just go for it?’ Then I pulled into the Exxon and played.”

Although William realized that he’d won, he didn’t know the extent of his win until the next morning. “I started checking it out,” said the residential property manager. “I didn’t believe it at first.” When he grasped that his win exceeded $30,000, he went to his wife. “I said to her ‘Honey, you know how last night I played the Lottery? Well, I’ve got some good news.’”

The happy twosome, who has been working on their new home, intends to use the winnings to put the finishing touches on their place. “My wife is big into decorating,” said William with a smile. William will continue playing his hunches and has a couple Racetrax® wagers that he “hopes come through.” William’s win occurred at the Bowie Exxon, located at 1500 N. W. Crain Hwy. in Bowie.
