Baltimore Woman Claims $800,000 Multi-Match Jackpot

Subscription Player Used Family Birthdays to Pick Winner

A 94 year-old retired federal employee visited Lottery headquarters today to claim an $800,000 prize delivered to her by a Multi-Match subscription. The life-long Baltimorean was still in shock, despite learning of her good fortune soon after her Thursday night jackpot win.

“I never, ever check the numbers,” she told officials. “I’ve had the subscription for five years and every time I’ve won in the past the lottery’s just mailed it to me. That’s why I love the subscription – it’s so convenient.” A phone call from a good friend, her lottery “partner” who recognized her friend’s numbers and another from the lottery alerted her to the big news. “I was just floored. Absolutely could not believe it.”

The mother of three and grandmother of seven plans to share her winnings with her family. “Everyone has down times, this will help ours be over faster.” She credits some help “upstairs” for her win. “We lost a member of our family recently. I think he might have nudged a couple of those numbers into place for me.” She told officials will continue to renew her Multi-Match subscription.

A lucky subscription holder is $800,000 richer thanks to last night’s drawing.  The ticket, which was purchased as part of a subscription last December, matched all six numbers from last night’s Multi-Match drawing.  The winning numbers were 2, 08, 11, 13, 20 and 28.

Lottery players can purchase Multi-Match subscriptions for 13, 26 or 52 weeks at a time. The winning ticket was a part of a 26-week subscription for the lotto-style game.

The jackpot has been rolling since it was hit on March 11, 2013 when Middletown resident, Bruce Barnhard, won $675,000.  As with all jackpots, the winner has 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Third Middletown Resident Claims Big Lottery Prize This Year [VIDEO]

Wins $675,000 Multi-Match Jackpot

There must be something in the water in the small town of Middletown. For the third time this year, a Middletown resident has claimed a large Maryland Lottery prize. The most recent winner, Bruce Barnhard, won Monday night’s $675,000 Multi-Match jackpot. He can now be added to the growing list of 2013 big winners from the Frederick County town. Last Friday, Middletown resident David Cline claimed a $50,000 The Price is Right scratch-off top prize, and in January, a 34-year-old anonymous man from the same town claimed a $1 million Powerball second-tier prize.

Barnhard was on his way home from work on Monday when he decided to stop for a drink and a Multi-Match ticket. He went about his business as usual the next day, stopping to play Keno. While at the store, the 54-year-old remembered that he had a Multi-Match ticket to check. “As soon as the machine scanned the ticket and I saw I had to go to Lottery headquarters, I had a feeling it was something good,” said Bruce. “I looked the numbers up as soon as I got home and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

His wife of 25 years, Eileen, didn’t believe her husband when he told her they had won the jackpot. “He’s always joking around with me and I really thought this was a joke,” she told Lottery officials. “We called our daughters and son-in-law the next day and told them the good news.”

The Middletown couple plans to invest the majority of their winnings, but mentioned helping their daughter, Sarah. “We want to help our daughter with her tuition so she can concentrate a little more on school and not have to worry about graduating with a lot of debt.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Stup’s Market at 5550 Mountville Road in Adamstown. The retailer will receive a $1,000 commission for selling the winning ticket. This was the fourth Multi-Match jackpot win this year. The last three jackpots have been hit in Western Maryland.

Western MD Winning Streak Continues with $675K Multi-Match Win

Jackpot ticket sold in Adamstown, Frederick County

Since 2013 began, there have been four Multi-Match jackpot wins – three of which have been in Western Maryland. The most recent winning ticket, from last night’s drawing, was purchased at Stup’s Market in Adamstown and is worth $675,000. The cash option is $425,000.

Last night’s Multi-Match winner matched all six of the following numbers: 02, 28, 29, 31, 34 and 35. That winner has 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim the prize.

To start off the year, an Eastern Shore woman won a $700,000 Multi-Match jackpot on January 7. Since then, all Multi-Match wins have belonged to the western portion of the state:

  • January 21: $575,000 winning ticket was purchased at Roxy Liquors in Hagerstown and claimed by a Hagerstown Army veteran.
  • February 11: $625,000 winning ticket was purchased at Boonsboro Exxon and claimed by a 66-year-old Sharpsburg woman.

Multi-Match isn’t the only lucky game in Western Maryland. Earlier this week, David Cline from Middletown claimed a $50,000 top prize on The Price is Right scratch-off. The biggest win of the year for that part of the state was a $26 million Mega Millions jackpot ticket from Mt. Airy last month.

Second Big Multi-Match Win From Western Maryland

Sharpsburg Woman wins $625,000 Jackpot

The Maryland Lottery’s Multi-Match game is hot. Since 2013 began, there have been three jackpot winners — two of which are from Washington County. The most recent, a 66-year-old Sharpsburg woman and regular Multi-Match player, won the $625,000 Multi-Match jackpot this past Monday night.

“I found out I won late Monday night when my twin sons woke me up with the news,” she said. “They came knocking on my door screaming that I had hit the jackpot.” Her sons checked her ticket online and saw that all her numbers matched. After checking and double checking the winning ticket, the mother-of-six and grandmother-of-one, called a family meeting on Tuesday evening to share the good news. They even skyped with her daughter so she would not be left out.

The big winner nervously claimed her prize today, accompanied by her eldest son. “She was so shaky, she could barely write her name,” he said. The Weis Supermarket employee is grateful for her win and said she is going to share the winnings with her family and pay off some bills. Her son added that they will also help their mom invest some of the winnings for her retirement.

The winning ticket was purchased at Boonsboro Exxon located at 719 N. Main Street in Boonsboro. This is the second Multi-Match jackpot win in Western Maryland in recent weeks. A Hagerstown man claimed a $575,000 jackpot win on January 25th.

Second Big Western MD Win in Three Days

$625,000 Boonsboro Multi-Match Win Last Night

If you haven’t been buying your Lottery tickets in Western Maryland, you may want to start now. Last night, on the heels of Saturday’s$1 million Powerball win in Middletown, a $625,000 winning Multi-Match ticket was sold in Boonsboro.

Last night’s Multi-Match winner matched all six of the following numbers: 16, 18, 31, 35, 37 and 42. That winning ticket was purchased at Boonsboro Exxon, located at 719 N. Main St. in Boonsboro (Washington County).
Saturday night’s $1 million second-tier Powerball winning ticket was sold at the Fountaindale Service Center, located at 4304 Old National Pike in Middletown (Frederick County).

Both tickets remain unclaimed. Winners have 182 days, from the date of the drawing, to claim their prize.

Hagerstown Army Veteran Claims $575,000 Multi-Match Jackpot Prize

One look at the man’s face and Lottery officials knew that the Hagerstown man didn’t believe what was happening to him.  Despite filling out all of the claims paperwork, he couldn’t grasp how his day had turned out. The disabled Army Veteran had won the $575,000 Multi-Match top-tier prize.

Earlier in the day, the man had joked about possibly being the winner of the Multi-Match jackpot that he knew had been sold by a Hagerstown retailer.  “I had several tickets,” he told officials. “And I did get them from that store, but never for a moment did I think it was me who actually won.”

He visited the lucky store and froze in place when he realized that one of his tickets matched all six winning numbers.  “I was in complete shock,” he said.  “I’ve enjoyed playing Multi-Match over the years, but now it’s my absolute favorite game!”

That lucky store, Roxy Liquors at 761 E. Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown, will continue to see our winner on a regular basis purchasing Lottery tickets.  The retailer that sold the ticket will receive a bonus of $1,000.

The jackpot has been rolling since it was hit on January 7 when a $700,000 jackpot was claimed by Berlin resident, Ruth Carpenter on the Eastern Shore.  Last night’s winning ticket was sold at Roxy Liquors, located at 761 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.  The retailer that sold the ticket will receive a bonus of $1,000. The winner has 182 days to claim the prize.

Berlin Woman Claims $700,000 Prize

Ruth Carpenter visited Lottery Headquarters today carrying a Multi-Match ticket good for $700,000.  The long drive from Berlin – just outside of Ocean City – brought an end to the 36 hours of nervous excitement since realizing she’d won Monday night’s jackpot.

Ruth, who owns and operates a taxi service, told Lottery officials that she enjoys buying a lottery ticket or two with lunch several times a week to add some fun to her demanding work schedule.

When she saw Monday’s winning Multi-Match numbers, though, she wasn’t happy.  “They looked like lousy numbers.  Then I looked at my ticket.”

When asked if she’d be taking a vacation after her big win, she replied, “A vacation?  I live at the beach.”   Ruth’s lottery luck met up with her at Whisker’s Bar & Grill at 11070 Cathell Road in Berlin.
