Store Visit for Injured Friend Turns into $100,000 Payday Payout

Mt. Airy Man Wins a $100,000 Top Prize Playing 10X Payday Payout Scratch-off

Helping a friend out with a little extra money paid off big for a Mt. Airy man. In over 20 years of working, the man and his wife can’t remember taking more than a couple days off. The coupled decided to take a day off recently to help a friend with a broken arm. When they went to the grocery store for the friend, the hardworking landscaper and housekeeper scratched a 10X Payday Payout scratch-off and won a $100,000 top prize.

When he went back to their friend’s house with the groceries, the 43-year-old was shaking with excitement as he showed them the winning scratch-off. Along with helping with bills and home improvements, the lucky winner said he has some special plans for a portion of the extra money. Since emigrating from El Salvador 22 years ago, he and his wife have only returned home once, and they plan to use the winnings to visit family. The winning ticket was purchased at Best Beer, Wine N Deli on Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg.

BM5 Doubler Results in $250,000 Taxes-Paid Win for Mt. Airy Man [VIDEO]

Three winning Bonus Match 5 tickets, plus two “Doublers”, plus taxes paid on all top prizes, added up to Daniel Hardiman, Jr. walking away with $250,000 – free & clear! Arriving at Lottery Headquarters with his family in tow, Daniel recounted his remarkable Bonus Match 5 win.

“Got to play to win is what Uncle Dave always says,” the winner’s dad, Daniel Hardiman, Sr., told Lottery officials. So it isn’t any wonder that Daniel Jr. did just that. The Hardiman men all work at the family-owned business D.J. Towing and Salvage. It’s a ritual for them to go to the Royal Farms stores to get Lottery tickets, coffee, gas and snacks and to check the previous day’s Lottery tickets. “We are always together,” Daniel Jr. said.  While making that daily stop at a Royal Farm store on Thursday, Uncle Dave repeated his favorite phrase, “Got to play to win.” He also told them, “Don’t forget your numbers.”  Heeding his reminder, Daniel, Jr. purchased three identical Bonus Match 5 tickets with his chosen numbers. Two of those tickets received “Doublers” — all were winners, bringing the total winnings to $250,000 taxes paid!

“I checked the numbers on the ticket checker in the store,” said the 27-year-old. Then I called the Lottery to confirm the $250,000 winning tickets. I felt stuck, like I couldn’t move.”  The big surprise though, Daniel Sr. told Lottery officials, was when they all arrived at Lottery headquarters and his son found out the taxes would be paid on the $250,000. “Daniel Jr. and his Uncle Dave were super happy then,” Daniel Sr. said with a smile.  Although the four Hardiman men are the only ones who know of Daniel’s $250,000 taxes-paid windfall, they do plan to tell a few family members some time in the near future.

Reminiscing about when he was around the age of seven and wanting to help his dad with the family business, the lucky winner said he plans to use his prize money to invest in the operation.  The winning ticket was purchased at Royal Farm, located at 25 Augustine Hwy. in Elkton.

Through July 8, the Maryland Lottery will pay the estimated taxes on all Bonus Match 5 top prizes. During that time, players also have the chance to double their winnings.  Randomly, Bonus Match 5 tickets will have the word “Doubler” across the top of the ticket.  If that ticket is a winner, the prize will automatically be doubled.

Mt. Airy Couple Wins $50,000 Prize

David Johnson - Black Jack

David Johnson, Jr. from Mt. Airy celebrates his
$50,000 Black Jack scratch-off win!

Takes Home Black Jack Scratch-Off Top Prize

David Johnson, Jr., and his wife Theresa, have been hoping for a financial miracle so that they can move David’s father back to Maryland from Missouri. They received that miracle last night when David scratched his way to a $50,000 Black Jack ticket top prize.

On his way home from getting an oil change, David noticed a few small winning scratch-offs in his car and decided to stop at the store. With his winnings, he purchased one Black Jack scratch-off.

“After I got gas, I scratched the ticket right there at the gas pump,” he said. “At first I thought I had just won $5, but as I kept scratching the ticket, $10,000 popped up. I then thought I won $10,000, until I looked at the rest of the ticket and saw I had a really big winner!”

David’s wife, Theresa, told Lottery officials that she had been trying to figure out a way to get a down payment on a condo so David’s father could live close to the family. “When my husband called me and told me he had won, I just got goose bumps,” she said.

The 42-year-old said he used his lucky silver half dollar that is dated the same year his mother, who passed away a few years ago, was born. “It’s like she helped us.”

Besides helping his dad, David plans to also save the rest. His winning ticket was purchased at High’s on Twin Arch Road in Mount Airy. There are currently five remaining $50,000 top-tier Black Jack prizes.

Mount Airy Man Weathers Storm to Claim $50,000 Prize

Robert Gemmell - Crossword Multiplier

Robert Gemmell claims his $50,000 Crossword Multiplier top prize!

Wins Top Prize on Crossword Multiplier Scratch-off

Heavy rain and flooded streets didn’t prevent Robert Gemmell from making his way from Mount Airy to Lottery Headquarters yesterday. The 80-year-old arrived with his two daughters by his side, a bit wet, but happy none-the-less to claim his big Lottery win. “The dark clouds seem to follow us to Lottery headquarters, but it was clear skies in front of us,” said Robert.

The retired engineer was at home in front of the TV when he scratched his winning ticket. “I had two tickets and won on the second,” said the winner. He added that he has been playing the Crossword Multiplier scratch-off since it came out in April. “I didn’t get anything for having five red words, so I wondered what I would get for having six.” He was delighted to discover it was the ticket’s top prize of $50,000.

Robert quickly called to share the news with his two daughters. With his winnings, the widower plans to go to Phoenix to visit his son and help out his three children and five grandchildren.

The winning ticket was purchased at Cork and Bottle, located at 4305 Ridge Rd. in Mount Airy.

Getting to Work Early Pays-off for Mt Airy Man [VIDEO]

Car Dealer wins first $100,000 top-prize on 10X Cash Scratch-off

An unexpected call from your boss asking you to come in early could make anyone a bit out of sorts, but not Mount Airy resident Francis Przybylek. Reporting for work this morning was just part of the chain of events leading to his purchase of a $100,000 top-prize winning 10X Cash scratch-off ticket.

Przybylek, a car dealer for Century Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Mount Airy, was asked to ferry a car to another lot in Frederick. When he arrived at work plans had changed and he suddenly had time on his hands until his normal shift began. He used his extra time to run errands and pick up a couple scratch-offs at the local supermarket. “I bought two $5 scratch-off tickets and lo and behold, one of those tickets won $100,” said the grinning 68-year-old. “I used $20 of my winnings to purchase two $10 scratch-offs and one of them won me $100,000.”

When he returned to the car lot, his boss sent him and a co-worker to the Lottery offices to claim the prize. “They were all very excited for me,” said the father-of-three. Francis, who is scheduled to work at the lot this evening, says he’ll still probably be reporting to work.

While relaying the story to Lottery officials, the happy winner fielded calls, sharing the excitement with his wife of 38 years and one of his sons.  Although he has no immediate plans for the winnings, he thinks he may use a small portion of the prize money for home improvements and save the rest. The winning ticket was purchased at Safeway #1926 located on East Ridgeville Blvd. in Mount Airy.

The Lottery has once again teamed up with the Baltimore Orioles for an exciting second-chance contest.  Lottery players who mail in two non-winning Reese’s™ scratch-off tickets will have the chance to become a Fan of the Game.

Beginning June 4th, a Fan of the Game will be randomly selected for every remaining 2010 Orioles home game and will be announced during the top of the first inning on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), the official television network of the Orioles.  If an Orioles player hits a home run that hits the Maryland Lottery Hit It Here sign in centerfield, the Fan of the Game selected for that game will win $100,000.  If a home run is not hit, or if an Orioles home run that is hit does not hit the Hit It Here sign, the Fan of the Game for that game will win $100 worth of Reese’s™ scratch-off tickets and entry into the Grand-Prize drawing.  At the end of the promotion, a Grand-Prize winner will be selected to win a trip for two to Orioles Spring Training in Sarasota, FL.
