Baltimore couple Earl and Michelle Garner already knew the lay of the land when they came into Lottery headquarters last Friday afternoon. The trip marked the couple’s third time to claim a top prize from Maryland Lottery headquarters. This time Earl had picked up a Monopoly scratch-off, which turned out to be worth $50,000.

Earl began playing the Monopoly scratch-off after checking the Lottery website to verify there was still a top prize left to claim. “I had been playing this ticket since August and figured it was only a matter of time until I won,” said Earl. His theory finally paid off after he picked up his winning ticket last week.

Despite the repeat appearances, the couple was just as happy with this win as they were with their first. “I’m always excited to win, just because this is our third time doesn’t mean we aren’t thrilled,” said Earl in regard to his multiple wins.

Recognizing the uniqueness of the situation, the Garners came prepared with a slew of jokes for Lottery officials, “You could say we’re back by popular demand,” laughed Michelle as she entered the Winners Lounge. Piping in, Earl commented, “More like, third time’s a charm.”

Earl and Michelle plan on continuing to play the Lottery and saving their big win. The winning ticket was purchased at Woodlawn Sunoco, at 6725 Dogwood Road located in Baltimore.

Anderson Felix is a regular scratch-off player. He and his co-worker purchase tickets breaks from cleaning carpets at Baltimore-area hotels. But the Owings Mills carpet cleaner really cleaned-up during a recent work break, scratching off one of the three remaining MONOPOLY™ scratch-off $50,000 top prizes.

Felix began scratching the ticket in the parking lot outside the store. As he slid into the driver’s seat of his work van he revealed a train emblem in the game play area of his ticket. He knew he had won, but it took some time for him to realize that he had won a $50,000 top prize. When he discovered the size of his windfall, he was in disbelief.

Felix, who emigrated from Brazil 30 years ago, says he plans to use the prize winnings to benefit his family. “I have two children and I want to plan for their future,” said Felix. He also plans to use a portion of the prize to celebrate. Felix plans to feed his ‘futbol’ fever, by traveling to Rio for the 2014 World Cup. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. The winning ticket was purchased at Mall Spirits on Reisterstown Road in Baltimore.

“I was just about to give up on second-chance contests,” said Brenda Alesci. Before she had a chance to give up on the bonus contests run by the Maryland State Lottery, Alesci received a call informing her that she had won $50,000 from the ongoing MONOPOLY™ scratch-off bonus contest.

The Baltimore resident was feeling pessimistic, having participated in many Lottery second-chance contests, to no avail. But last week, Alesci had a different feeling when she left the house to visit her grand kids. She was overcome with a feeling that she’d receive a call from the Maryland Lottery. When she returned home, her husband gave her a message from a Lottery official. She thought it was a joke until she called and was instructed to claim her $50,000 at the Lottery’s Baltimore claim center.

Alesci plans to share her MONOPOLY™ payday with her kids and grandkids. “I’ve been helping them all their lives. It’s how I was raised. Why would I stop now,” said Alesci.

Claims Maryland Lottery top prize on MONOPOLY™ scratch-off

An 84-year-old Dundalk man created some ‘indoor fireworks’ of his own when he revealed a $50,000 top prize. On Independence Day, the former Bethlehem Steel employee stopped to pick up some milk and also purchased a MONOPOLY™ scratch-off. When he returned home, he and his wife scratched the ticket while making dinner. He was double-checking the ticket, examining the game area and saw a MONOPOLY™-themed railroad emblem, meaning that he had won 10 times the $5,000 prize shown – a $50,000 jackpot.

Wins $50,000 MONOPOLY™ Bonus Prize

When Towson University Senior Erika Jensen received a call from Lottery officials this week, it gave her quite a shock. The 22-year-old pre-law student rarely plays the Lottery, so she wasn’t expecting to win $50,000 through a MONOPOLY™ bonus drawing. Jensen’s winning ticket was selected from more than 374,000 entries.

The Chestertown resident is very glad she decided to listen to her mother, an avid scratch-off player, who urged her to play MONOPOLY™ and enter the non-winning ticket into the game’s Internet promotion. Her mother’s insistence paid off when Jensen received news of the win during a busy day at the office. “At first I thought it was a prank, but when the Lottery sent me an email to confirm the win, I had to run out of the building,” she said.

When she returned to her office, Jensen explained her excitement to her supervisor and then began to call family, beginning with her mother. The busy student says she will continue working and will put her winnings into a savings account while she completes her studies towards a law degree.

A Baltimore mechanic and his girlfriend visited Lottery Headquarters on Tuesday to claim a prize that had dominated their every waking moment for the previous 16 hours. According to them, every hour since they found their lottery luck Monday afternoon had been a waking one. “Not a bit of sleep last night,” they told officials.

It was Monday’s rain that brought about the happy event. The winner stopped in at a nearby store in search of an umbrella. While there she decided to play a MONOPOLY ™ scratch-off, a lottery instant game she’d enjoyed in the past. “I didn’t get a winner on that first one, but I was persistent. I was going to win.” That second ticket proved to be a $50,000 winner.

“I took off my glasses because I was sure I was seeing things,” she said. “I couldn’t wait to get home to surprise my boyfriend.” Despite reading the game’s instructions time and time again, the couple was not absolutely sure they’d hit it big until it was confirmed on Tuesday. Shirley Raigns from Parkville has been a bit stressed out of late due to some bills that were piling up. So, when the 55-year-old saw “Maryland Lottery” on her phone’s caller ID, she was pretty excited. “I knew I’d entered the MONOPOLY™ contest,” said Shirley.

With high expectations, she called back and quickly discovered that she had, indeed, won $50,000 in the MONOPOLY™ scratch-off bonus drawing. An avid Lottery fan, Shirley has been playing since she was 18 years of age. “This $50,000 win blew me out of the water,” said the retired government worker. “And now I can swim,” she added with a laugh.

While the former recreation therapist intends use the prize money to pay those accumulating bills, she said she will also spread the joy. “I’ll share with my nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, oh and church too.”

Lucky Laurel Lady Claims $50,000 MONOPOLY™ Bonus Drawing Prize [VIDEO]

Unable to contain her enthusiasm, Akashi Lewis, gushed about her $50,000 MONOPOLY™ bonus drawing prize. The Laurel resident, who was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by her Aunt, kept repeating, “I thought it couldn’t be me. So, if you think it can’t be you, it can be!”

The 39-year-old mother-of-two entered the MONOPOLY™ bonus drawing 25 times. “I also played the game online,” said Akashi. “It was pretty fun and pretty neat too.” An employee at a billing company, Akashi was at work when she received the good news. “I saw Maryland Lottery on the caller ID,” she said. “I thought it was a work-related call.”

Work soon turned to pleasure, when the lucky winner was informed of her $50,000 prize. “ The Lottery official asked if I had room in my bank account for $50,000,” said Akashi. “I told her, ‘I sure do. Then I screamed and I cried and I think I said H-E-double hockey sticks.’”

With a 20-year-old daughter already in college and another 18-year-old soon to begin, Akashi plans to use her prize money for tuition. She also intends to continue entering the MONOPOLY™ bonus drawings. “Yes, of course, I’m going to enter more,” said Akashi. “In fact, I have tickets on standby waiting for me to enter.”
