Baltimore Coin Collector Has Golden Ticket

Wins $50,000 Top Prize on The Golden Ticket

The Golden TicketA Baltimore coin collector was very excited to celebrate his scratch-off win with Lottery staff on Monday afternoon. A huge grin broke out on his face as he entered the Winner’s Lounge at Lottery headquarters. This was the first large win for the life-long scratch-off player, who was happy to share his Golden Ticket moment with his mother.

The man’s luck came over a month ago while at a flea market. After purchasing his daily ticket and scratching it, he noticed that he had won a sizeable amount. Not truly believing what he was seeing, the man had a clerk scan the ticket to make sure it was a winner. “As soon as he checked my ticket, the clerk told me to sign the back to make sure I was the only person who could claim it,” said the coin collector.

Later, on the way home from the flea market, he shared his good news with his mother. “All he told me was that he had won. At first I thought he might have won $500,” she said. “For him to win $50,000 is truly something.”

For now his plans include adding a rare gold coin to his collection and saving the rest. His winning ticket was purchased from Island Liquors at 1018 Joppa Road in Joppa.

Joppa Man Wins $250,000 Mega Millions Prize

Second-tier win one of four in record-breaking $656 million jackpot drawing

Although the Harford County resident missed winning the historic jackpot by just one number, he couldn’t have been more excited to be $250,000 richer. He discovered his good fortune when he went into work after the drawing and someone was calling out the winning Mega Millions numbers — 02.04.23.38.46 and the Mega Ball 23. He happened to glance at his ticket and then immediately went to check to see if what he heard was correct. “I was in shock I couldn’t believe it,” the 47-year-old said. He had 02.04.23.38.46 and the Mega Ball 22.

He then emphasized the fact that he didn’t miss the jackpot by just one number, but by just one digit, having Mega Ball 22 instead of Mega Ball 23. “I must have looked at that ticket at least 30 times since then,” he said.

On his list of things to do with the $250,000, there is only one intention — to pay off his house. “I’m still in shock,” he said. “I don’t think I’ll believe it until the money is in the bank.” Once that deposit is made, the happy winner will share his good news with just one person. “I’ll tell my mom,” he said with a smile.

The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11, located at 4918 Harford Rd. in Baltimore City.

Three other second-tier $250,000 winning tickets were sold in Maryland for that drawing. Those tickets were sold in Timonium, Bel Air and Hagerstown. Winning jackpot tickets were sold in Maryland, Kansas and Illinois. The winning jackpot ticket sold in Maryland was purchased at 7-11, located on 8014 Liberty Rd. in Milford Mill. That ticket remains unclaimed. Winners have 182 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes.

Luck Continues for Cruise for Cash Second-Chance Winner

William Merritt - Cruise for Cash

Joppa Man Wins Nine-Night Cruise Vacation

For the second time in less than two months, William Merritt made his way to Lottery Headquarters this morning to claim a prize.  While out of town for work last month, the 45-year-old tunnel superintendant received a phone call from a Lottery official telling him that one of his second-chance Cruise for Cash tickets had been selected as a winner.  Merritt is no stranger to cruises, as he has been on at least five, including trips to Mexico and both the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

A frequent Lottery player, the Joppa man purchased this ticket at his local Royal Farms store.  The store seems to be lucky for William. Just last month, he won $50,000 from a $20 Cash Spectacular scratch-off he purchased at that same store. He used those winnings for a new kitchen in his home. The overjoyed winner says that he and his girlfriend plan to take the cruise next March.

Partnering with Royal Caribbean International, the Maryland Lottery launched Cruise for Cash on January 10, 2011. The $5 scratch-off features seven $50,000 instant top prizes, as well as 31 instant cruise vacations and a second-chance contest.  Players may enter the contest by mailing in a non-winning Cruise for Cash scratch-off or by entering online at mdlottery.com/cruise.  The second-chance prize includes a nine-night cruise vacation for two on any one of Royal Caribbean’s cruise ships departing from the Port of Baltimore.  The winner will also receive a $1,000 onboard credit. One drawing will take place each month through July.

Joppa Man Wins Second Big Lottery Prize

Bernard Robison, Jr - Bonus Match 5

Bernard Robison, Jr. is no stranger to the Maryland Lottery winners lounge.  In 2008, Robison won a second-chance Dubble Bubble “Dream Day at the Park” prize, which provided him the opportunity to play baseball with Baltimore Orioles alumni. This afternoon, the Proctor & Gamble retiree strolled into Lottery Headquarters again.  This time, he was cashing a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top-tier winning ticket.

He entered with a smile on his face and confidence by his side. “Every time I play, I know I am going to win,” said Bernard.  “There is no point in playing if you suspect you may lose.”

Robison, a Harford County resident of over 40 years, plays Bonus Match 5 often, and says that he always uses the same numbers, which are a combination of important dates and birthdays.  He explained how he first saw his winning numbers on television, and then called the winning numbers line to verify his win. He also described his feeling after he won as “natural.”

This calm, cool, and collected winner has two grown children; a son and a daughter.  At the time of speaking with the Lottery, he had not yet told his children of his win. “My daughter had surgery yesterday and I plan on going to visit her right after I leave here to tell her the news,” the excited winner stated.  Robison said that he will be giving his children some of his winnings, and may also buy a new car. “I don’t need much to make me happy,” he explained. The winning ticket was purchased at Redner’s Market, located at 1002 Joppa Farm Road in Joppa.

Scratch Win Delivers Several “Firsts” for Joppa Woman

Mary Foust - Cruise For CashMary Foust has played the Lottery’s Cruise for Cash instant game several times in recent months and the ticket has treated her pretty well.  So well, in fact, that when stopping by the Royal Farm convenience store at 500 Joppa Farm Road last week to pick-up a snack for her son she decided to try it again.  It turned out to be a good move.

“I scratched it outside in my car,” she told officials today. “I didn’t believe my eyes when I saw the ship’s wheel symbol.  I knew exactly what it meant.”  That Cruise for Cash symbol is what will put Mary and her husband, first on a plane to Florida, and then on a luxury Caribbean cruise – the flight and the cruise – first-time experiences for her.  “We’ve already figured out which ship we want to travel on and where we want to go.  I am beyond excited.”

Partnering with Royal Caribbean International, the Lottery launched Cruise for Cash in January. The $5 scratch-off is the first of its kind for the Maryland Lottery and features seven $50,000 instant top prizes and 31 instant seven-night cruise vacations for two, departing from Florida with a premium ocean view balcony stateroom; deluxe premium hotel accommodations for two for the night prior to cruise departure, $1,000 onboard credit and $500 spending money.

Stop for Money Gram Makes Money for Baltimore Man

Wins $20,000 Powerball Prize

Powerball with Power PlayThe 62-year-old Baltimore retiree enjoys playing Mega Millions and Powerball each week. Although he looks forward to the games, rarely does he look for the winning numbers until days after the drawings. “I stash my tickets in my car or in the house somewhere. It’s sometimes a week before I look at them,” said the winner.

Recently he was in a local store to purchase a money gram when he remembered that he had five Powerball tickets which he hadn’t checked. When the first one was scanned and the message read “Go to Lottery Headquarters,” he was immediately excited.

“It must be over $5, 000,” he said to himself. The winner had matched four white balls and the Power Ball on his Quick Pick ticket to win the third-tier prize of $10,000. Since he had opted for the Powerplay, his prize increased to $20,000. Having no luck with the other four tickets, he ran back to his car to call his wife and tell her his unbelievable news.

The retired correctional officer and father-of-one, intends to invest his winnings. The winning ticket was purchased at Midway Inn, located at 12320 Pulaski Hwy. in Joppa.

Lottery Hits a Home Run with “Hit It Here” Orioles Promotion [VIDEO]

The Lottery has once again teamed up with the Baltimore Orioles for an exciting second-chance contest.  Lottery players who mail in two non-winning Reese’s™ scratch-off tickets will have the chance to become a Fan of the Game.

Beginning June 4th, a Fan of the Game will be randomly selected for every remaining 2010 Orioles home game and will be announced during the top of the first inning on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), the official television network of the Orioles.  If an Orioles player hits a home run that hits the Maryland Lottery Hit It Here sign in centerfield, the Fan of the Game selected for that game will win $100,000.  If a home run is not hit, or if an Orioles home run that is hit does not hit the Hit It Here sign, the Fan of the Game for that game will win $100 worth of Reese’s™ scratch-off tickets and entry into the Grand-Prize drawing.  At the end of the promotion, a Grand-Prize winner will be selected to win a trip for two to Orioles Spring Training in Sarasota, FL. The drawing will take place on Wednesday, October 6th.

Lottery Luck Shines Through the Dark Clouds

Timely Scratch-Off Win for Baltimore Woman

Red Hot 5sWith a dead refrigerator, a dying hot-water heater and a car in intensive care occupying her mind, a Middle River retiree can hardly be blamed for forgetting about a Lottery ticket she’d purchased just before this trifecta of doom entered her life.  When she finally remembered it, the problems suddenly didn’t seem such a big deal.

“The ticket sat in my kitchen for almost two weeks before I got around to playing it,” the former insurance agent told Lottery officials.  “With so much going on, so much going wrong, it completely slipped my mind.”  The lucky feeling that had originally led her to purchase her Red Hot 5’s scratch-off game was almost immediately overwhelmed by those household hassles, something that we all experience – just hopefully not in the same week.  “More than once I asked myself how I was going to pay for all this.”

When things calmed a bit, today’s winner sat down to play the game.  At first she didn’t believe her eyes.  “When so many numbers matched I was sure I wasn’t reading it correctly.”  After cleaning her glasses and summoning her son to assist, she realized that she did indeed have a $50,000 winner.  “I sat quietly for a bit, then I started shaking and then crying – this just couldn’t have come at a better time.”

The lucky Red Hot 5’s instant ticket was purchased from the Midway Inn, 12320 Pulaski Highway in Joppa.

I LIVED THE FANTASY – GREG DAVIS

My son and I had a terrific time at the game.  We tailgated with friends, the weather was great and the best thing about the day was that the Ravens won (30-7 vs. Broncos).  I never thought in a million years I was going to win the tickets, but I did and the club seats were awesome!
