Walmart Employee Celebrates Birthday with $50,000 Win

Hurlock purchase nets top prize on Instant Riches scratch-off

A Dorchester Walmart employee celebrated her birthday with an early surprise that would send most people reeling. When the young woman stopped into a convenience store, she had no idea that she would uncover a $50,000 prize on her Instant Riches scratch-off.

She purchased a couple of five dollar scratch-offs from the store, including one Instant Riches ticket before heading to her parked car to scratch-the tickets. She had only just begun scratching her Instant Riches scratch-off when she had uncovered a spot that appeared to show a $10,000 prize. After a few moments of excitement, she continued to scratch the ticket revealing four more $10,000 prizes for a total of $50,000. “At that moment, I was filled with anxiety and heart fluttering,” said the winner.

The winner said she plans to keep news of the win quiet for now, but may reveal the good news to family later this month. She plans to put her prize to good use, paying off her car and making charitable donations to her two favorite charities: the Children’s Miracle Network and the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Hurlock Goose Creek convenience store, located at 105 Delaware Avenue in Hurlock.

New Carrollton Man Wins $50,000 Playing Instant Riches Scratch-off

He wanted to check his Powerball tickets and buy a scratch-off, maybe get a little spending money for lunch. Darryl better have a very large appetite, because he won $50,000 on the Instant Riches scratch-off.

“I’d had luck with Instant Riches before,” he told Lottery officials when asked why he chose that specific scratch game from the Instant Ticket Vending machine.  “I scratched it right there and could not believe my eyes, I just said ‘Wow.’”  Alone in the store at 7 a.m. on a Sunday morning, he had no one to share in his celebration. “I ended up calling my friend, waking him up with my news.”

Darryl went on with his plans yesterday morning and added a few four-pound catfish to the day’s catch.  “It was my best day fishing in a long time.”  Recently employed after being out of work for nearly two years, Darryl intends to rebuild his savings with the big win.  “It’s been pretty rough this year.  This comes at the perfect time for me.”  The winning ticket was purchased at Forbes BP Gas Station, located at 9701 Annapolis Rd. in Lanham.

Quentin Sutherland celebrates his Instant Riches scratch-off win.

Claims Top Prize on Instant Riches Scratch-Off

Early this morning, 52-year-old Quentin Sutherland came into Lottery Headquarters to claim his $50,000 Instant Riches prize. The lucky winner was encouraged to play by his co-worker who won $500 on scratch-offs two weeks in a row. “I figured, if he could win that much, I might as well give it a shot,” said Quentin. Having just recently started playing scratch-offs on a regular basis, Quentin was completely astonished when he scratched his ticket while at lunch, revealing his win. “When I realized how much I had actually won, I was so shocked that I started to shake.” The carpenter immediately told his lucky co-worker and the rest of the staff.

Quentin then called his girlfriend, who screamed upon hearing the news. With his winnings, he plans to take his co-workers out to lunch, his girlfriend to a nice dinner and pay some bills. Quentin intends to put the rest in the bank for safe-keeping. The winning ticket was purchased at Giant Supermarket, located at 948 Bay Ridge Rd. in Annapolis.

Preparing to turn 85 years of age is a huge milestone. Winning $50,000 days before the big occasion is jaw-dropping. “I was shocked,” said the lucky octogenarian.

The former school administrator stopped by her local gas station over the weekend and picked out an Instant Riches scratch-off to play.  When she realized she had a $50,000 winner, she described her reaction as disbelief.  “I’ve been playing your Lottery games since they first came out,” she told officials.  “I’ve won a little bit here and there, but this was the biggest by far.  What a great birthday gift.”

Today’s young-at-heart winner, who was accompanied by her son who is visiting from Florida to help celebrate the big occasion, intends to put her prize money in the bank. She may however use a small amount on her birthday festivities.  “I might go out for a little nicer dinner for my birthday, but nothing too fancy,” she said with a smile.

Monrovia Furniture Craftsman wins $50K Instant Riches Top Prize

Gary Smith from Monrovia wins $50,000 Instant Riches top prize.

Discovers win while on family camping trip

“I’m so lucky, it irritates people,” said Monrovia resident Gary Smith. This holiday weekend his lucky streak continued when he won a $50,000 top prize playing an Instant Riches scratch-off ticket. Smith, who says he has won several significant Lottery prizes this year, had been camping with his family when he purchased the winning scratch-off ticket.

“My dog wasn’t doing too well and I wanted to run home to check on her,” said Smith. Before picking up his dog, Smith stopped into the 7-11 on Fingerboard Road in Monrovia for a couple of games of Racetrax, his favorite Lottery game. Before leaving the store, he purchased a $5 Instant Riches ticket from store owner Rose King and scratched the ticket. He revealed five $10,000 prize spots on the ticket, winning one of the game’s $50,000 top prizes.

Although his wife’s jaw dropped when he returned to the campsite, his family and friends are responding to the news of yet another Lottery win in familiar fashion. Smith says that he will use the prize to pay off a motorcycle and purchase a used truck. Smith explained that 80% of the win will go to his wife. “She’ll use that money to do the right thing and invest in our future,” said Smith.
