Harford County Woman Finds Ultimate Bingo Luck

Shayla Sumter - Red Line Bingo Tripler

Shayla Sumter holds on tight to her $30,000 Red Line Bingo Tripler check.

Wins $30,000 on Red Line Bingo Tripler Scratch-off

One look at the giant oversized check with her name on it was all it took for Shayla Sumter to break in tears of joy. Thanks to a little bingo luck, the Havre de Grace resident took home $30,000 on the Red Line Bingo Tripler scratch-off.

The 26-year-old admitted that she typically wouldn’t have chosen a bingo scratch-off, usually preferring tickets without Extended Play. “I like to play regular bingo, but I usually don’t play the scratch-offs that take a lot of time to play,” Sumter said. But for some unknown reason, Sumter decided to buy the bingo-themed ticket.

As soon as Sumter saw that she had won, she screamed for the store clerk to call her father. After receiving the call, he quickly ran down to the store to see what was going on. “She’s always been a lucky person,” her dad said smiling at his daughter. “Ever since she was a child, Shayla has been lucky.”

For now, Sumter plans on purchasing a new car with a little guidance from her dad. “Even though I’m a grown woman, I’m still going to have my dad give the final okay on whatever I choose,” she said. Sumter purchased her lucky ticket at Post Road Liquors at 1123 Revolution Street in Havre de Grace.

Havre de Grace Man Becomes Maryland’s Newest Millionaire

Jose Antonetti - Powerball

Jose Antonetti, from Havre de Grace, celebrated his
$1 million Powerball win with his wife and daughter.

Takes home second-tier Powerball prize

Playing Powerball is part of Jose Antonetti’s normal routine. But, this past weekend, his Lottery experience turned out to be anything but normal. The 79-year-old purchased his ticket and took it home to place in his regular hiding spot. On Sunday, he printed the winning numbers from the Lottery’s website before going to take a nap. He asked his wife, Emma, to check his tickets and went to the bedroom.

“My wife started calling my name and told me I won $200,000,” said the winner. “I told her that I played the Power Play option, so it must be worth more.” Jose then had his daughter, Rita, check the website, which is how they realized the ticket was worth $1 million.

To win the second-tier prize, players must match all five white balls, only missing the Powerball. Jose’s winning Powerball $200,000 second-tier prize was increased to $1 million as a result of playing the game’s Power Play option. For an extra dollar, Power Play can increase the prize up to five times. This year, 14 Marylanders have won the second-tier prize.

With his winnings, Jose plans to pay off his mortgage and credit cards. He’d also like to visit some of his family in Florida. The winning ticket was purchased in Havre de Grace from Post Road Liquors, located at 1123 Revolution Street.

Officials expect more wins of this magnitude from Powerball when scheduled changes to the game begin on January 15, 2012. The new $2 Powerball will raise all second-tier prizes to $1 million and jackpots will start at $40 million.

Winning Weekend for Lottery Players

Three Big Wins in Two Days

Lottery officials reported this morning that a $1 million Powerball prize and two $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prizes were won over the weekend.  Saturday’s winning Powerball $200,000 second-tier prize was increased to $1 million as a result of playing the game’s Power Play option. For an extra dollar, Power Play can increase the prize up to five times. The wining ticket was purchased in Havre de Grace from Post Road Liquors, located at 1123 Revolution Street.  Officials expect more wins of this magnitude from Powerball when scheduled changes to the game begin on January 15, 2012.  The new $2 Powerball will raise all second-tier prizes to $1 million and jackpots will start at $40 million.

The weekend’s winning Bonus Match 5 tickets were both purchased at Giant grocery stores.  Saturday’s $50,000 win at the Giant store at 10480 Campus Way in Upper Marlboro was followed on Sunday by one at the Giant, located at 7940 Crain Highway in Glen Burnie.

Lottery winners have 182 days from the date of the win to claim their prizes.

Mega Millions/Powerball Scratch-Off Results in Big Payday for Havre de Grace Woman

Wins $100,000 Instant Top Prize

Mega Millions - Powerball Scratch-OffThe 39-year-old Havre de Grace woman won’t be the only one celebrating her recent $100,000 win. “The nieces and nephews are getting their Christmas lists together,” said the winner’s boyfriend, who accompanied her to Lottery Headquarters to claim the top prize on the Instant Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off ticket.

The happy twosome described Friday afternoon’s events. “I went to pick up a few things at the store,” said the winner. “I saw the Lottery’s instant ticket vending machine and just decided to buy a few tickets.” After purchasing six $5 instant tickets, the woman returned to work where she proceeded to scratch them. She won $15 on the first ticket, $5 on the second, nothing on the third or fourth, and then struck it rich on the fifth. “I just kept saying ‘Oh my God, oh my God.’” She quickly showed the scratch-off to her boyfriend who works with her. Still refusing to believe their good fortune, the pair returned to the store where the ticket was purchased and had a clerk check it. “She told me, ‘I can’t help you, it’s too big for us,’” said the winner.  With her win confirmed, she signed the ticket, put it in a home safe and then waited until Monday morning to come claim her prize.

In addition to making the holidays happy for her nieces and nephews, the winner will pay down her mortgage and put her remaining winnings in the bank. The winning ticket was purchased at Kleins #4243, located at 949 Beards Hill Rd. in Aberdeen. The Instant Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off still has three $100,000 top prizes remaining, six $10,000 prizes and many other instant chances to win. Players can also win a quick pick Mega Millions ticket with Megaplier and a Powerball ticket with Power Play.

No Fooling – Luck is in the Cards for Havre de Grace Winner

Harford County Woman Wins $100,000 Top Prize on Lucky Cards Scratch-Off

Lucky Casino - Cards

“When I got home it was nothing but hugging, kissing and crying,” said the 67-year-old winner. The retired office manager greeted her husband at the front door with news of her $100,000 Lucky Casino scratch-off win. Soon the phone lines were flooded with calls alerting the couple’s children and grandchildren. “They wouldn’t believe me. I had to put my husband on the phone,” said the winner. They had trouble believing her good fortune because she had fooled family members before, claiming to have won one of the Lottery jackpot games.

The practical joker stopped to purchase her daily Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets when the new Lucky Casino scratch-off ticket caught her gaze. “I liked the way they looked,” she said. After purchasing two tickets, she went to her car to scratch. She had only scratched a small part of the ticket when she decided to ask the clerk what he saw. As the clerk studied the ticket, his frown of concentration turned into a smile of congratulations.

The lucky winner says she will use the winnings to pay bills and may take a trip to Las Vegas. She also plans to share a portion with family members and the church. The winning ticket was purchased at Havre de Grace Food, located on 866 Otsego St in Havre de Grace.

Lucky Casino is a $10 scratch-off that has 3 different looks: Lucky Spin includes blue and yellow roulette imagery; Lucky Roll is green and purple with dice imagery; and Lucky Cards is predominantly red and mimics the look of a deck of playing cards. All three Lucky Casino tickets can be found in the same pack of tickets and although they may look different, they are designed with the same fun number match play style!
