Glen Burnie Man “Gets Rich” with $50,000 Win

Wins $50,000 second-tier prize on Get Rich ticket

Get RichWhen a Glen Burnie man stopped at his favorite Lottery retailer to pick up tickets for last weekend’s jackpot drawings, he decided to add a Get Rich scratch-off ticket to his order. While the man didn’t take home the $600 million Powerball jackpot, he’s more than happy with his $50,000 scratch-off win.

The 51-year-old told Lottery officials that he had started to scratch his ticket in the store when he noticed his ticket had matched one of the winning numbers. “I saw the first number and just thought there was no way this was happening,” he grinned. “Then when I saw the second number, I went to the clerk to check if I could cash it there.”

The man ended up taking his ticket home to his new apartment and placed it in a drawer until Lottery headquarters opened Monday morning. “I told my girlfriend about the win and she was very happy for me,” he said. “But I haven’t told anyone else yet.”

For now, the lucky winner is planning to purchase a new television to help outfit his apartment. “It’s pretty sparse right now; a new television is definitely first on my list of things to buy.” The man purchased his winning ticket at Sun Valley Liquors located at 7933 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. in Glen Burnie.

There are still two remaining $1 million top-prize tickets and six $50,000 second-tier prizes that have yet to be claimed.

Glen Burnie Jokester Experiences Real Win

Wins $30,000 on Blackout Bingo Scratch-Off

Blackout Bingo (907)A Glen Burnie woman was down to her last game on a Blackout Bingo scratch-off when something exciting happened. As she went through the numbers on her ticket, patterns on that final game began to emerge. First it was one line, then two lines and before long the entire bingo card was full except for one number. When she found that final number and blacked out her bingo card, she realized she won one of the game’s $30,000 top prizes.  It was almost unbelievable. “I had to make sure my eyes weren’t deceiving me,” said the 58-year-old housewife.

Although this was her biggest win to date, the jokester had sort of been through this before.  Late last year, she pretended she won on a Bingo scratch-off when she visited one of her regular Lottery shops. “I like to play jokes, and I just wanted to see the expressions on their faces,” said the lucky winner.

This time around, she shared the news of the win with her family first. “They were tickled when I told them,” she said. She kept the winning ticket in a safe place until she and a close friend came to Lottery headquarters. With the excitement of the win still new, the winner has not yet formulated plans for her winnings. The winning ticket was purchased at Chesapeake Liquors on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie.

Perfect Storm and Lucky Numbers Net Glen Burnie Man $50,000 Prize

Wins Bonus Match 5 prize with lucky numbers

A Glen Burnie man was hurriedly preparing for the onslaught of Hurricane Sandy. He made sure to pick up the essentials:  supplies like food, water and a Bonus Match 5 ticket with his lucky numbers. While watching the news on the storm closures last Monday morning, he learned that his last-minute Lottery purchase won him a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize from the October 28 drawing.

“I’ve come close to hitting the jackpot several times,” he said.  The numbers he played are comprised of birthdates, the Super Bowl won by his favorite football team, and two dates that bookended what he could only describe as the best weekend of his life.  As he watched the storm coverage and saw his lucky numbers scroll across the screen, he said, “It was like a dream.”

The lucky man said the only inconvenience was being stranded home with the winning ticket. “It felt good getting the ticket out of the house,” he explained. Until he arrived at Lottery headquarters he kept news of the win quiet and hid the ticket in his Bible.  “This win came at a great time. What a Godsend,” the 54-year-old esaid.

The winning ticket was purchased at Champion Liquors on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie.

Glen Burnie Man Tops Off Winning Ways with $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Prize [VIDEO]

Joseph Gosnell’s list of wins reads like a Maryland Lottery game lineup. The 68-year-old Glen Burnie man has won playing Keno, Multi-Match, Pick 4 and now his latest and greatest prize – the $50,000 top prize on Bonus Match 5.

He discovered his most recent win on Saturday when he stopped to make his Lottery purchases.  Joseph buys all his games on one day for the entire week.  “I was filling out my tickets and happened to look up and see the winning numbers for the past drawings,” said the retired-truck driver.   Since Joe always plays the same numbers, which happen to family birthdays, he quickly recognized his numbers matched. “I said to myself, ‘Wow, those are my numbers,” Joe told Lottery officials.

Though he clearly recognized he was a winner, his next thought was, “There’s something wrong with this ticket.” After having the clerk make a printout of the winning numbers, Joe was convinced of his good fortune and said, “Maybe, I’ll hit again.”

Married for 50 years, the father-of-one has no definite plans for his windfall. “I might put some away. I might buy a truck. I might play some more Lottery,” said Joe with a chuckle.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shahverdi’s liquors, located at 6719 Chesapeake Center Dr. in Glen Burnie.

Wins Medal Madness $250,000 Top Prize

Glen Burnie resident, Kenny Smith, was at Lowe’s shopping for his home improvement company suitably named, Kenny Smith’s Improvement Services, when he got a call from his wife.  She informed him that he had a special delivery at the house from the Maryland Lottery.  After hanging up, she went online to mdlottery.com where she discovered that her spouse had won $250,000 in the Lottery’s Medal Madness promotion.  She quickly called him back and told him the good news.  Kenny’s entry was drawn from over 100,000 entries received in the Medal Madness promotion, which required players to collect bronze, medal and gold logos on their Lottery terminal tickets.

Kenny said that he was rather calm after learning that he was a quarter of a million dollars richer and continued to get everything he needed to complete his home improvement jobs for the day.  “I had to finish what I started,” he said. He was also still a bit skeptical about his win.  “Until I see the check it’s not real,” he said. “I believe show me the money.”

Kenny who is originally from North Carolina, says he may use some of his winnings to go to Myrtle Beach. “I’m going to get a hotel and just look out at the ocean.”  Until making his trip, he intends to continue buying houses and fixing them up. “That’s what I do,” said Kenny.  “I like people to live like I live, comfortably.  Referring to his prize, the Gold Medal winner added, “This right here is a truly a blessing.”

$50,000 Extreme 8s Win Makes for Extremely Happy Glen Burnie Couple

Extreme 8sA husband and wife visited Lottery Headquarters this week to claim the $50,000 instant top prize won playing the Extreme 8s scratch-off ticket. The Glen Burnie pair told officials that they’re fans of the Lottery’s daily games – Pick 3 and Pick 4 and only try scratch-offs occasionally. “We just play scratch-offs every once-in-a-while,” they said.  Luckily for them, their occasion play happened at the right place at the right time.

The wife was cashing in a Pick 3 win when she decided to get an Extreme 8’s ticket.  “Whenever I’m in the mood for a scratch-off these last few months I’ve been playing Extreme 8’s,” she said. “I’ve done pretty well.”

$100,000 Win Throws Welcome Monkey Wrench in Repair Plans

Glen Burnie store sells retiree top-prize winning Wild 10s scratch-off

Waiting for your car to be repaired can be a lengthy process. That’s just what one Washington, DC resident was thinking while she waited for her mechanic. The 75-year-old decided the perfect thing to break the monotony was a Wild 10s scratch-off. When the scratch ticket won $100,000, she decided car repairs could wait, for it was now time to claim a jackpot.

The retired Federal worker asked her daughter to pick out a scratch-off for her while they waited for their usual mechanic. A regular scratcher, her daughter picked out a new ticket which caught her eye. When they scratched the ticket they could not believe when a “Wild” symbol appeared, meaning she won 10 times the printed $10,000 prize, a total of $100,000. “I could hardly believe it. I felt so good,” said the woman.

The retiree’s personal plans are to bank the windfall. “I just want to know that I have it – I still have to get my brakes done,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Pete’s Liquor Fair on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie.

Glen Burnie Woman Wins $20,000 Cash Word Prize [VIDEO]

Mary Lou Grooms’ has fond memories of her dad and believes his car tag number may have brought her good luck earlier this week. The Glen Burnie insurance specialist was heading to work on Monday morning, when she decided to stop by the EZ Quick Food Mart. While there, she purchased two scratch-off tickets. She scratched the tickets and checked them briefly to see if either was a winner.

At first glance, she didn’t think that she had won anything, but upon closer examination, she discovered that she was $20,000 richer. She then noticed that the ticket number on the bottom left corner was 141. “I thought to myself ‘those are dad’s tag numbers in reverse,’” said Mary Lou. “It must be a sign from him.”
