Fort Washington Woman Unwraps $100,000 Birthday Surprise

Wins Green Bucks scratch-off top prize

Loretta Landry and her daughter, Roxie, were driving around on May 29th, which happened to be Loretta’s 71st birthday, when they passed their favorite Lottery retailer. Although Loretta is an avid fan of Maryland Lottery games, she needed a little extra prodding from Roxie that afternoon to stop and play. Once in the store, she made her usual Lottery purchases and with $10 to spare, she asked the clerk to pick a scratch-off for her.

It wasn’t until later that evening that Loretta played her Green Bucks ticket. The widowed mother-of-four scratched the first number to reveal a $1,000 win. “I called to my granddaughter, Raquel,” said Loretta. With no response, Loretta called again. Although her granddaughter was still oblivious to Loretta’s hollers, Roxie jumped up and ran to her mother concerned that something was wrong.

She showed her daughter the ticket and said, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all of them were like this?” Soon joined by Raquel, the two of them then looked on as Loretta uncovered win after win after win.

“I kept saying, ‘keep going, keep going, keep going…,’” said Roxie, who accompanied her mom to Lottery Headquarters. “She’s screaming. I’m screaming. We’re all screaming, It was one of the happiest moments we ever experienced.”

When all was said and done, the lucky ladies had lost their voices and found themselves $100,000 richer. “We had to put our math skills to the test,” said Roxie. The elated-twosome said that the prize money would go into the bank. “I want to invest and watch it grow,” said Loretta. “And, I may take a cruise,” she said with a little chuckle.

The winning ticket was purchased at Tantallon Exxon, located at 10815 Indianhead Hwy. in Fort Washington. There are still four $100,000 top prizes remaining on the Green Bucks ticket.

Fort Washington Father Wins $50,000 With Black Jack Scratch-off

Black JackA Fort Washington man arrived at Lottery Headquarters this afternoon with a ticket that he hoped was a $50,000 winner.  He had looked at it, his wife had looked at it and one of his children had looked at it: they all agreed that it looked like he’d won big.  But the man, who is admittedly very conservative, wanted to have it confirmed at the Lottery before he believed it.

The husband and father-of-three, who works in the medical field, stopped to get gas yesterday morning and decided to use the $10 in cash in his pocket to buy a few scratch-off tickets.  After winning a small amount of money on the first tickets he bought, he purchased two more Black Jack $5 scratch-offs.  Seeing he won something on the second ticket, he expected it to be a nominal amount and handed it to the cashier.  “The scanner said ‘see Lottery’ and the cashier handed it back to me,” the winner said.  “The cashier told me that it was too big a prize to cash at the store.”  The man hurriedly scratched the rest of the ticket, saw that he had won $50,000, called his wife of 24 years and rushed home.

Although his wife was unable to accompany him to Lottery Headquarters for the winning confirmation, the man e-mailed her a picture of him holding the oversized check with a huge grin on his face.  “Ok, now she’ll believe it,” he said.

The man, who was tremendously thankful for his win, plans to invest some of the money and use the rest for his kids’ education.  “Two kids in college isn’t cheap,” he said, “and this is going to provide a lot of relief.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the S. Potomac Shell station at 9100 Livingston Road in Fort Washington.

Fort Washington Woman Rings in the New Year with Million Dollar Smile

Claims $1 Million Top Prize on Million Money Match Scratch-off

Ringing in the New Year for a retired 60-year-old Fort Washington woman used to be a reminder that her family’s savings fund needed attention. Unbeknownst to her, her fortune would suddenly and drastically change after purchasing a Million Money Match scratch-off ticket and winning the first of the ticket’s three $1 million top-tier prizes.

“When I saw the two horseshoe symbols saying that I had won a million dollars, I was in total disbelief,” she said. “It’s weird because I kept getting this feeling that I would win big all last year.”

The lucky winner, who was a postal worker for over forty years, said that she wished she and her husband had been more vigilant about saving. “We were a little nervous about our future,” she said. “This money will certainly provide the cushion we need for retirement now and provide a second chance for us.” She told Lottery officials that besides putting some of the money in her savings and paying bills, she also intends to help out her daughter, who is currently unemployed.

The Million Money Match scratch-off ticket debuted in December and still has two $1 million top prizes remaining to be won. The winning ticket was purchased at F &W Convenience Store, located at 974 Swan Creek Road East in Fort Washington.

Fort Washington Man Gets Early $625,000 Christmas Surprise

Wins Top-Tier $625,000 Multi-Match Jackpot Prize

An excited Fort Washington man celebrated Christmas early when he matched all six Multi-Match numbers last Thursday and took home the $625,000 top-tier jackpot prize.

“The next day, I went to a convenience store near my house to check my numbers, and to my surprise, I matched all of them,” he said. “When I realized that I had won, I was in such disbelief. It was such a surreal moment for me.” The lucky winner’s winning numbers were 5-12-32-36-37-39.

The winner told Lottery officials that although he doesn’t play Multi-Match often, he’s thrilled he decided to take a chance when he saw how high the jackpot was. “The highest I ever won was $7,600 playing Racetrax but this win is so much better.”

The 50-year-old IT manager said he’ll pay bills, help family members including his daughter who is in college, and put the rest in his savings. The Multi-Match jackpot has been hit ten times this year, which is four more than last year. The winning ticket was purchased at Lee’s Convenient Market on Allentown Road in Fort Washington.

PG County Woman’s Special Treat Brings Extra Special Surprise

Wins $50,000 top prize on Money Surplus scratch-off

Money SurplusA Fort Washington woman was on her way to work this morning when she stopped to purchase four Money Surplus scratch-offs. She and her husband had recently agreed that they were going to tighten their belts and buying Lottery tickets would be a special indulgence. Now, they are both thankful that she decided to make today the day to treat herself.

The second ticket the 53-year-old scratched was a big winner.  “I kept looking at the star symbol and then I asked the clerk if I was seeing a $50,000 winning ticket,” she told Lottery officials.  “He told me it was.”  The lucky winner immediately called her boss and told him that something had come up and she’d be late for work.

The Management Program Analyst quickly made a u–turn and went back home. She told her husband of 24 years that she had bought a few Lottery tickets this morning.  She then showed him the winning Money Surplus ticket pointing at the $50,000.  “I was in disbelief,” her husband said with a smile.  “We then jumped up and down and began to laugh.  Of course it was a pleasant surprise.”

The winner hopes to return to Lottery Headquarters later this year with a million dollar win.  “Until then, everything will pretty much stay the same. We’ll pay bills, help our family and save some money. The only difference now is that I will start to play the Lottery,” her husband said with a chuckle.

Fort Washington Woman Accidently Wins $100,000

When a Fort Washington woman went to the store to buy seven Bonus Match 5 tickets, she didn’t realize that she had accidentally purchased two tickets with the same numbers.  Actually, the 66-year-old did not realize her mistake until an hour after she discovered the first ticket was a winner.  “It was a good accident,” she said.

The lucky woman said she plays Bonus Match 5 almost every day.  Her winning numbers came from the ages of her seven children.  Her daughter, who accompanied her to Lottery Headquarters, wasn’t surprised about the big win.  “It’s her time,” she said.  “She’s had a tough year.”

The retired daycare worker plans to share her winnings with her children and grandchildren.  “That is my vacation – to be able to do something for someone who has been there for me,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at S&W Liquors located on 7072 Allentown Road in Temple Hills.
