Columbia doctor wins $100,000 with Red Line Bingo Tripler game

Red Line Bingo TriplerA doctor made a house call at Lottery headquarters last Friday; stopping by to claim a $100,000 prize he won earlier last week playing the Red Line Bingo Tripler scratch-off. He told officials that, while he’d bought Powerball and Mega Millions tickets on occasion, this winning instant game was the first scratch-off he’d ever tried.

“I was getting some gas on Monday when I thought of my mom. She just loved to play scratch tickets,” the Columbia resident told Lottery officials. He bought the first ticket he saw and set it aside to play later at his office. “My co-worker scratched it for me and said she thought it was a winner,” he said. “I took a look and got pretty excited, but I didn’t really believe it until I heard the confirmation here.”

The good (and lucky) doctor and his wife plan to dedicate the winnings to the family retirement fund and their son’s education fund. The winning ticket was purchased at the Long Reach Exxon station at 6000 Foreland Garth in Columbia. The Red Line Bingo Tripler gamer has one $100,000 instant winner still in stores.

Columbia Man Wins Second Big Scratch-off Prize

Howard County man had previously won $100,000 before today’s $50,000 win

Aces HighA 60-year-old Columbia man, who goes by the name KC, spends his days paying it forward as a treatment counselor. Today, he received a different kind of payment when he claimed a $50,000 Aces High scratch-off top prize.

On Sunday evening, KC stopped at the gas station where he frequently buys scratch-offs. While in the store, he scratched his tickets and upon realizing he won the top prize, he showed the ticket to the clerk. “I’m definitely going to give them a big tip for selling me the ticket,” the generous man told Lottery officials.

This wasn’t his first visit to Lottery headquarters. Around four or five years ago, the KC claimed a $100,000 scratch-off top prize. “That win came right before the holidays, so I gave a lot of nice gifts that year.” The lucky winner, who has lived at the same house for 37 years, also used that prize to make some home renovations.

“The one thing I didn’t get was a new front door,” the winner, who has worked as a counselor for more than 20 years, said. “I’m getting that door this time!” He also plans on paying bills with his prize. The winning ticket was purchased at Lowest Price, located at 3900 Frederick Ave. in Baltimore. The Aces High game still has three $50,000 top-prizes remaining.

Columbia Woman Wins Second-Chance Nine-Night Cruise Vacation

Olga Perez - Cruise for Cash

Olga Perez, from Columbia, claims her nine-night cruise vacation.

First vacation in years for retiree

As Olga Perez checked her e-mail this afternoon, she was never expecting to see “Maryland State Lottery” in her inbox. After she read the message, requesting that she call Lottery Headquarters, Perez knew that she had won. “I have not been on a vacation in over 25 years,” Perez explained. “I spent my life raising my two daughters, and now that they are grown. I am very excited to be able to enjoy a nice vacation.”

Perez won a nine-night cruise vacation for two departing out of Baltimore to a destination in the Caribbean of her choice. When asked who she will bring with her, she explained that one of her daughters has never been on a cruise, so she would like to treat her. The grandmother-of-three recently retired after working for the IRS. “This win came at the perfect time. Now that I am retired I can kick back and relax.” Perez plans to book her cruise vacation for next summer.

Partnering with Royal Caribbean International, the Maryland Lottery launched Cruise for Cash on January 10, 2011. Although this was the final second-chance drawing, the $5 scratch-off still has two $50,000 instant top prizes, as well as 10 instant seven-night cruise vacations.

Bonus Match 5 Finally Matches Up For Columbia Man

Claims $53,045 Winning Ticket

A 70-year-old retired federal employee very calmly came into Maryland Lottery Headquarters to claim his Bonus Match 5 prize. The winner’s first words were, “This is one way to return home from Atlantic City.” After that exclamation, he began telling his story.  An avid Bonus Match 5 player, he purchases his tickets every week without fail. So, with plans to leave town, the retiree bought his tickets in advance.

Not only are his tickets regularly purchased, but his numbers are carefully chosen. “I’ve been playing an old fortune cookie’s numbers for years,” he said with a smile. His long-time routine finally paid off to the tune of over $53,000.

The well-relaxed man discovered his good fortune when he checked his numbers online. “I saw the matching numbers and yelled, ‘Honey can you please come here’ to my wife,” he said. “I told her, ‘I need you to check to make sure that what I’m seeing on the computer screen is what I’m seeing on the ticket.’”  Indeed it was. The excited player kept his winning ticket in a winter jacket and checked on it several times a day until arriving at the Lottery to claim his prize, which he intends to put in the bank.

The winning ticket was purchased at Omid’s Crown, 10471 Twin River Rd. in Columbia.

Movie Rental Makes Columbia Man $30,000 Richer

Claims Blackout Bingo Top Prize

The couple stood in the store and scratched the ticket.

After verifying the ticket was a $30,000 winner, Bill and Rachel went home and hid the ticket in the closet.  “We could barely sleep,” said Bill.  “We woke up early this morning and headed right to the Lottery.”  When asked if they wound up watching the movie they rented last night, Bill said, “We couldn’t even remember what movie we got.  I actually went home and started cleaning the house, just to keep busy.”

With the winnings, the self-employed winner and his wife plan to pay bills.  The winning ticket was purchased at Giant #300, located at 8805 Centre Park Dr. in Columbia.

The military employee appeared calm about his newfound wealth, but said that he and his wife were excited to have an extra $50,000 to spend. His better half has definite plans for their winnings. “She’s going to redo the kitchen,” he said. “I’m not going to see any of this money,” the father-of-one added good-naturedly. Columbia Man Strikes “Gold”

Wins $50,000 on Gold Bar Bonus Scratch-Off

Gordon Iannetta - Gold Bar BonusGordon Iannetta was on his way home from work yesterday when he stopped to use the ATM machine at one of his favorite Lottery retailers. After using that money machine, he decided to use another and bought a $20 Maryland Lottery scratch-off from the Instant Ticket Vending Machine. That ticket revealed a $50 win, which prompted the Baltimore City firefighter to buy a Gold Bar Bonus scratch-off. Gordon proceeded to scratch the ticket while in the store. “I scratched the bottom first,” said Gordon. “It revealed a $500 winner.” He kept scratching the ticket and time after time the prize amount kept increasing, adding up to a grand total of $50,000. “When I scratched the top and everything matched, I just said ‘Merry Christmas,’” recounted the happy 52-year-old.

Upon his arrival home, Gordon phoned his girlfriend and a few others with his good news. He described his significant other’s reaction to his win, as “happy and shocked.” “I can’t repeat my friends’ responses,” he added with a laugh. While Gordon intends to keep playing Lottery games, he has no idea what his intentions are for his prize money. “I guess, just enjoy it,” he said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Snowden River Exxon, located at 8251 Snowden River Pkwy. in Columbia. The Gold Bar Bonus scratch-off still has many more prizes available to be won, including one $1 million instant top prize and three more $50,000 instant prizes.

Columbia Woman Wins $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Prize

Bonus Match 5A Howard County woman received a huge bonus while playing the Maryland Lottery.  As usual, the 51-year-old played her daily numbers.  But, this day turned out different when she matched all five of her Bonus Match 5 numbers, bringing home the $50,000 top prize.

“She plays all the time, and our daughter always looks up the winning numbers for her at mdlottery.com,” her husband of almost 30 years said.  On August 9th, when the winner checked the numbers, everything changed.   “She called me at work and was so excited,” her husband continued. “But I had to be calm because I was in a meeting.”  She kept the winning ticket in her purse until arriving at Lottery headquarters to claim her prize

With her winnings, the mother-of-two plans to get her daughter a car, pay for college and pay taxes.  She and her husband have owned their own business since the 1970’s.  The winning ticket was purchased at Box N Save, located at 3409 Dundalk Avenue in Baltimore.

Saving the Best for Last

Columbia Man Wins $50,000 Multi Prize Bingo Top Prize

Multi Prize BingoAlan Murrell usually buys $1 scratch-offs, which he has had success with in the past. However, yesterday he decided to up the ante with a $5 Multi Prize Bingo purchase, and was rewarded with a $50,000 top-prize winner.

The restaurant manager had purchased eight or nine tickets yesterday, the majority of which being his usual $1 tickets. “I was scratching, scratching, scratching, scratching,” said Alan. When he got to the last ticket, he scratched it nonchalantly, expecting it to be a non-winner like the previous seven or eight. After revealing his first line Alan thought he had won $50 and was pleased to have made his money back. However, he soon realized that he had revealed an X, and that he was $50,000 richer.

Having incorrectly assumed he was a big winner with scratch-offs in the past, the 66-year-old skeptically checked the ticket four or five times before finally telling his wife, who had a similar case of disbelief. Still in a state of nervous skepticism, Alan couldn’t sleep, waiting for the morning when he could finally go across the street to a retailer to check his ticket, where his winnings were finally confirmed.

The father-of-four plans to pay some bills and fix up his car. “After that, my wife will probably spend it all,” he joked. The winning ticket was sold at Omid’s Crown, located at 10471 Twin River Rd. in Columbia.  The Multi Prize Bingo ticket still has two $50,000 top-prizes remaining.
