Fort Washington Father Wins $50,000 With Black Jack Scratch-off

Black JackA Fort Washington man arrived at Lottery Headquarters this afternoon with a ticket that he hoped was a $50,000 winner.  He had looked at it, his wife had looked at it and one of his children had looked at it: they all agreed that it looked like he’d won big.  But the man, who is admittedly very conservative, wanted to have it confirmed at the Lottery before he believed it.

The husband and father-of-three, who works in the medical field, stopped to get gas yesterday morning and decided to use the $10 in cash in his pocket to buy a few scratch-off tickets.  After winning a small amount of money on the first tickets he bought, he purchased two more Black Jack $5 scratch-offs.  Seeing he won something on the second ticket, he expected it to be a nominal amount and handed it to the cashier.  “The scanner said ‘see Lottery’ and the cashier handed it back to me,” the winner said.  “The cashier told me that it was too big a prize to cash at the store.”  The man hurriedly scratched the rest of the ticket, saw that he had won $50,000, called his wife of 24 years and rushed home.

Although his wife was unable to accompany him to Lottery Headquarters for the winning confirmation, the man e-mailed her a picture of him holding the oversized check with a huge grin on his face.  “Ok, now she’ll believe it,” he said.

The man, who was tremendously thankful for his win, plans to invest some of the money and use the rest for his kids’ education.  “Two kids in college isn’t cheap,” he said, “and this is going to provide a lot of relief.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the S. Potomac Shell station at 9100 Livingston Road in Fort Washington.

her way to a $50,000 Black Jack top prize!

Wins Top Prize Playing a Black Jack Scratch-Off

Olga Gusman Martinez, a 42-year-old from Berlin, got up Thursday morning, drank her morning coffee, and purchased a single Black Jack scratch-off ticket from her local food store. She had no idea she’d leave the store $50,000 richer.

“I was in total shock when I realized I had won,” she said. “I didn’t really believe it until they actually validated the ticket.” The mother-of-five told Lottery officials that although she’s won before, she never would have believed that she’d win something this big. “I’m still in total shock that I won. It’s going to take some getting used to.”

The lucky winner, who has worked as a housekeeper for about a year, said she first wants to celebrate with her family, maybe take a vacation, and pay a few bills. Martinez was the fifth person to claim a $50,000 prize playing the Black Jack scratch-off. There are currently two top-prizes remaining. Her lucky ticket was purchased at Berlin Food market on Flower Street in Berlin in Worcester County.

$50,000 Win in the Cards for Woodlawn Woman

Claims top prize on Black Jack Scratch-Off

Black JackA trip to the butcher produced more than her grocery order for a Woodlawn woman. While visiting Hollins Market, the 43-year-old daycare provider took a little detour and stopped into the American Convenience Store, where she bought three Black Jack scratch-offs.

She began playing her purchases while still at the store, but it wasn’t until she was at her niece’s home that she finished scratching her tickets. It was then that she revealed her win, although still a bit gradually. “I thought that I’d won $10,000,” said the winner. Her niece, who accompanied the Black Jack fan to Lottery Headquarters, said that she looked at the ticket and commented, “It’s more than that.” It was five times more, making it one of the $50,000 top prize winning tickets. “I started jumping up and down, like it was my win,” said the niece.

This is the largest win to date for the avid Lottery player, who enjoys Pick 3, Pick 4 and jackpot games in addition to scratch-off play. “My biggest win before this was $200 on Pick 4 this past summer,” said the winner. Although she hasn’t shared the good news with anyone besides her niece who was present as the time of the win, the single-mother-of-one, intends to share her winnings with several others.

Referring to the niece who was with her she said, “I think I’m going to buy her a little car. I’m also going to help my other nieces for Christmas,” said the generous aunt.
The winning ticket was purchased at American Convenience Store, located at 26 S. Arlington Ave. in Baltimore.

David Johnson - Black Jack

David Johnson, Jr. from Mt. Airy celebrates his
$50,000 Black Jack scratch-off win!

Takes Home Black Jack Scratch-Off Top Prize

David Johnson, Jr., and his wife Theresa, have been hoping for a financial miracle so that they can move David’s father back to Maryland from Missouri. They received that miracle last night when David scratched his way to a $50,000 Black Jack ticket top prize.

On his way home from getting an oil change, David noticed a few small winning scratch-offs in his car and decided to stop at the store. With his winnings, he purchased one Black Jack scratch-off.

“After I got gas, I scratched the ticket right there at the gas pump,” he said. “At first I thought I had just won $5, but as I kept scratching the ticket, $10,000 popped up. I then thought I won $10,000, until I looked at the rest of the ticket and saw I had a really big winner!”

David’s wife, Theresa, told Lottery officials that she had been trying to figure out a way to get a down payment on a condo so David’s father could live close to the family. “When my husband called me and told me he had won, I just got goose bumps,” she said.

The 42-year-old said he used his lucky silver half dollar that is dated the same year his mother, who passed away a few years ago, was born. “It’s like she helped us.”

Besides helping his dad, David plans to also save the rest. His winning ticket was purchased at High’s on Twin Arch Road in Mount Airy. There are currently five remaining $50,000 top-tier Black Jack prizes.

Windsor Mill Man Shocked by $50,000 Scratch-Off Win

Mark Alford from Windsor Mill smiles for the camera after cashing in his
$50,000 winning Black Jack scratch-off.

First Top-Prize Winner for Brand New Game

Mark Alford was in a pretty good mood when he stopped at a nearby gas station this past weekend for a snack and a Lottery ticket. He left a few minutes later in a much better mood, thanks to the Lottery’s new Black Jack instant game.

Mark is an excavator, working every day with heavy equipment. In his infrequent free time he enjoys the Lottery’s jackpot games and scratch-off tickets, especially those with card-game themes. “I saw the Black Jack game when I walked in and asked for it right away,” he told officials. Scratching his ticket in his truck, as he does with all of his instant games, Mark revealed all the numbers – but not the related dollar amounts. “I like to look for wins before knowing what each is worth. It’s more exciting that way.”

The Black Jack ticket revealed a win in the fourth of its ten “hands.” Now came the moment of truth for Mark, the time to see just how much he’d won. “I scratched it hoping for $5 or $10,” he admitted. “When I saw what was there I literally could not believe my eyes. I knew I was reading it incorrectly.” What he saw, of course, was his $50,000 prize. “I still don’t believe it four days later.”

The Alfords recently had a baby so this win comes at a very good time for them. If he can wrangle it, Mark tells us, he might also try to add a motorcycle to the family motor pool. Everybody knows that a family with a new baby really should have a motorcycle for quick diaper runs, right? While he probably won’t be getting there on a motorcycle, Mark will continue to get his Lottery tickets at the River Hill Sunoco, 5015 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville.
