Claims Maryland Lottery’s Top prize on Big Money Megaplay scratch-off

Big Money Mega PlayWith soaring temps, it can be hard to think of anything but air conditioning, but not for a Laurel, Delaware woman. The 35 year-old’s temperature began to rise even higher when she revealed a sizzling-hot $1 million prize on a Big Money Megaplay scratch-off.

“I’m still in shock. I almost passed out when I scratched the ticket,” she explained, referring to one of the two scratch-offs the retail manager purchased on her way home from work. When she returned home, she scratched both tickets. On the second scratch-off, one of her winning numbers matched and she slowly revealed the million dollar prize emblem underneath the matching number. “I stopped dead in my tracks and dropped everything. I had to look at it several times before it registered,” she said.

The woman and her boyfriend shared the excitement of the win, but plan to keep news of the win quiet. The lucky winner says she plans to use her prize winnings to purchase a car and for a down-payment on a house and will bank the remainder. The winning ticket was purchased at OC Road Beer & Wine in Salisbury.

Wins $50,000 Big Money Mega Play Scratch-off Prize

“Can I do the Cabbage Patch dance?” asked Donald Cole III, when Lottery officials confirmed that he had won $50,000.  They gave him the go ahead and Donald got up from his seat and began to do his celebration boogie.

The delighted winner said that his winning day started with a trip to the ATM machine. He then went to the Olney Shell to purchase his Lottery tickets. Donald took his tickets home to scratch and had played a few before revealing his win on the Big Money Mega Play. “I must have looked at that ticket 2,500 times,” said the 52-year-old.  He then immediately called his “bride.”

Although, married for nine years and together for 16, Donald still affectionately refers to his wife this way.  “I knew after three or four dates, that she was the one,” he said. “I’m married to the most amazing woman on the planet.” Donald then recounted how she had stood by him as he fought for his life back when he had a brain aneurism burst in 1999. After a miraculous full recovery, the two remain inseparable with this the latest of his lucky moments. “When I told her the news she was excited,” said Donald. “She always tells me, ‘you are the luckiest man.’”

As far as plans for his $50,000, Donald’s response was quick and concise, “Buy something I don’t need,” he said. The winning ticket was purchased at Olney Shell, located at 18040 Georgia Ave. in Olney.

Avenue Couple Claims $1 Million Big Money Mega Play Scratch Prize

Big Money Mega PlayThe Thanksgiving holiday is always special, but some are more memorable than others. Maybe the turkey was especially good one year. Maybe a rarely-seen relative was able to join you. Or, in this case, it was the day that a couple from the small town of Avenue in St. Mary’s County won $1 million.

The lucky couple claimed their prize this morning, waiting until their hectic work schedules allowed them both time to make the trip. “It’s been tough waiting,” they admitted. “We’ve not been getting much sleep.” The $1 million Big Money Mega Play ticket was purchased from Murphy’s Town & Country grocery store at 21270 Abell Road in Avenue. “I scratched part of the ticket at a stop light when I was driving home from Murphy’s,” she told officials. “Just enough to know I had a match.”

The rest of the ticket was played when the winner returned home, where her husband was sleeping. “I must have looked at it thirty times, in total disbelief.” She calmly woke her husband, who thought from her demeanor that something terrible had happened. “I was relieved at first that it wasn’t bad news, but then just amazed at just how good the news was.”

Along with purchasing a new home that they’ve been discussing for a while, the couple plans to share a good chunk of their winnings, believing it important to spread the “blessing” around. “There’s a lot of good we can do for people around us who really need help.”

Oliver Beach Resident Wins Top Prize on Big Money Mega Play Scratch-Off

Yesterday afternoon, Anna Belle Davis had a hankering for some mint chocolate chip ice cream. When the Oliver Beach resident made a trip to her local Royal Farms store to buy some she was disappointed to find they were all out of her favorite frozen confection. She then decided to indulge in a different pleasure, a Maryland Lottery scratch-off. “I couldn’t get my ice cream, so I decided to buy three scratch-offs from the Instant Ticket Vending machine,” said the exuberant winner. That lucky turn of events would result in a $1 million windfall for the 52-year-old leasing agent, who was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by her husband, Rick and nephew, Scott.

“I picked this game because of the $1 million top prize,” she told officials, “I always like to go for the biggest prizes.” Taking it home to play, Anna Belle scratched the ticket with her “lucky quarter.” She saw she had a match, and then scratched the prize amount. “When I saw all those zeros I couldn’t believe it, I just started screaming.” Rick, a truck driver, came in to check on her and helped calm things down long enough to confirm that they were $1 million richer.

The couple plans to pay bills and invest some of their winnings. While a long-overdue vacation may be in their immediate plans, the biggest joy they’ll get from the win is the knowledge that they won’t be working forever; that there is a relaxing retirement in their future. “It won’t be happening soon, but to know that it will be happening eventually is wonderful,” said a glowing Anna Belle. The lucky Big Money Mega Play ticket was purchased from the Royal Farms convenience store, located at 12545 Eastern Ave. in Chase.

Prince George’s County Woman Wins $50K Twice

Big Money Mega PlayA common phrase heard over and over again is, “Lightning never strikes the same place twice.”  That is no longer true according to a Capitol Heights woman when it comes to winning Lottery prizes.  Last week, she won $50,000 playing the Big Money Mega Play scratch-off.  Just this past February, she also won $50,000, that time with the Players Club scratch-off.  Even more amazing is that both winning tickets were purchased at the same location, Triangle Market in Capitol Heights.  “I cried the first time I won,” said the winner.   “The second time…I just laughed.  I couldn’t believe it.”

The 42-year-old winner, who goes to the same store every day, was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by her mother.  The lucky woman just moved from New York to Maryland this past July, and has found playing the Maryland Lottery to be both fun and rewarding.

Her winnings will help to supplement her income from her job at a non-profit organization.  In addition, the mother-of-two plans to use her latest windfall to shop and hopefully buy a car.  “I hope to see you in a couple of weeks,” joked the winner referring to another potential big win.  The winning Big Money Mega Play ticket was purchased at Triangle Market on 1409 Ritchie Marlboro Rd. in Capitol Heights.

Montgomery County man wins $50,000 Big Money Mega Play Top Prize

Big Money Mega PlayWhen a Silver Spring Lottery player purchased a Big Money Mega Play scratch-off ticket yesterday, he couldn’t have imagined that he’d be soon be heading to Lottery Headquarters to claim a $50,000 cash prize.  The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, did just that this afternoon.

The still-stunned winner told Lottery officials that although he’s won cash prizes before from the Maryland Lottery, he’s never won anything this big.   “I usually go after work to pick up a few tickets,” he said. I have a ritual where I let the clerk pick my tickets out for me. To my surprise, he picked out a winner!”

The 45-year-old man, who has worked in maintenance for over 18 years, said he plans to help the clerk that picked out the ticket for him with some kind of reward. “If it wasn’t for him, I probably would not have won.” He said he believes he was meant to win because he kept getting a feeling that he would win money. “Also, when I looked at the ticket, I noticed that the winning amount on the ticket was under my lucky number which is 36. This is truly a blessing for me and my family,” he said.

He said that beside giving the clerk a small reward, he plans to put some extra money on his mortgage, pay a few bills, and put some aside for his daughter’s college tuition.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Woodyard Shell at 8906 Woodyard Road in Clinton.
