Haircut Leads to $250,000 Ravens Cash Fantasy Win [VIDEO]

Two $250,000 top-prizes remain on ticket

A couple of Harford County Ravens fans still have a reason to smile despite the team’s heartbreaking loss to the Redskins last Sunday.  After purchasing several Ravens Cash Fantasy scratch-offs for the first time, the couple learned that one of their tickets was worth the $250,000 top prize.

The husband, an Amtrak employee, bought his big winner after getting a haircut last Friday.  He knew that some of his friends had been lucky with the Ravens-themed ticket and decided to see what the hullabaloo was for himself.

It was the man’s wife that actually scratched the ticket later at home.  “I was on the phone with my daughter when I saw that we had won $250,000,” she said. “I started waving it at my husband so he could check.”

The Ravens Cash Fantasy second-chance contest also served as encouragement for him to choose the ticket. “There are some pretty great prizes,” he said. “From the season tickets for life to the club seats, they’re all something I would want to win.” Enter the second-chance at mdlottery.com/ravens.

The couple plans to pay bills, clear their mortgage and do some traveling with their winnings.  The winning ticket was purchased at Tobacco Outlet at 3101 Emmorton Road in Abingdon.  There are still two Ravens Cash Fantasy $250,000 top-prizes remaining.

Abingdon Man Gets Double Dose of Surprises

Claims $50,000 Payday Doubler Top Prize

When the 74-year-old Abingdon man entered the Lottery’s Winner’s Lounge with his son by his side, he was still digesting the fact that he had won not $10,000 – but $50,000.

The long-time Lottery player purchased the winning ticket on Saturday and scratched it to reveal a $10,000 win. Then he stopped scratching. He quickly phoned his two sons to share his news and both were delighted with his “$10,000” windfall. “I was in shock,” said the retired army civil service employee. “But I remained pretty calm. I just tried to figure out when I could claim it.”

After a long holiday weekend of waiting, the winner and his son received another welcome surprise when a Lottery official told them to finish scratching the ticket. “She told me I wasn’t finished,” said the man. “We had joked on the way down about ‘what if it was the top prize?’ We had no idea it was $50,000.”

The happy pair plans to dine on some steamed crabs with a portion of the prize and the winner intends to take care of bills and help his sons, as well.  The winning ticket was purchased at Royal Farms, located at 7950 Pulaski Hwy. in Baltimore.

Two Big Wins, Same Lucky Store

Powerball Jackpot and Mega Millions Second-Tier Prize Hit at Wine World

Just last September, Lottery officials were congratulating the $108.8 million winners of Maryland’s first Powerball jackpot prize. That winning ticket was purchased at Wine World, located at 406-A Constant Friendship Blvd. in Abingdon. Then, last Friday, the Lottery team once again welcomed a lucky Wine World patron to Lottery Headquarters. This winner claimed a second-tier $250,000 Mega Millions prize.

“What are the odds of two big wins like that?” asked the winner of the Mega Millions prize. “And, my number for the Mega Ball was only off by one digit.” The winning mega ball number was 27 and the winner had 26. Had that number matched, Wine World would have been celebrating two jackpot wins.

The Mega Millions winner, a 32-year-old Comcast employee, realized he had won the $250,000 prize when he checked his tickets at a grocery store about a week ago. The father-of-two was stunned to see the message that he needed to cash his prize at Lottery Headquarters. “I knew it was big, but it just didn’t seem real,” he said excitedly.

The winner plans to start a college fund for his children, pay some bills and buy a new house. Wine World owner Elizabeth LaBruto received a $1,000 commission for the most recent win, and a $25,000 commission for last year’s win.

Second-Tier $250,000 Mega Millions Ticket Sold at Lottery Retailer

It was just about six months ago that Wine World, located at 406-A Constant Friendship Blvd. in Abingdon, sold a winning $108.8 million Powerball ticket. It was the first Powerball jackpot win since the game’s arrival in Maryland in January 2010. Yesterday, lady luck arrived yet again at this popular Lottery retailer with someone matching every number except the Mega Ball to win Mega Millions’ second-tier prize of $250,000.

Since no winning jackpot ticket was sold, Friday night’s drawing will be worth $61 million, with a cash option of $44.8 million. Last night’s winning numbers were 03 05 10 26 27 and Mega Ball 27. In 2011, Maryland had 17 second-tier Mega Millions winners, including two $1 million wins as a result of adding the Megaplier option. This is the first second-tier Mega Millions ticket sold in 2012.

Belcamp Man Wins $50,000 Prize with Bonus Match 5

In an instant, a Belcamp man became a jackpot winner, matching all 5 numbers selected in the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 drawing with the numbers he chose on his regular ticket for Tuesday, October 25th. “I saw the numbers on the television crawl on WBAL,” the winner said. “I looked down on my ticket and – Bango – there were the numbers.”

The 68-year-old has been playing those same numbers for quite a while, having chosen the numbers randomly over a year ago. Other Bonus Match 5 players may want to study his example as the strategy has been profitable for him in the past. “I also won the $50,000 top-prize in 2002,” he explained.

When asked about his plans, the man said his winnings would make his life more comfortable. “It’s hard to live off of a fixed income. I intend to stretch this as far as I can.” The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-11 convenience store located on Pulaski Highway in Abingdon.

Wins $50,000 Playing the Hot Hand Scratch-off

Noel McDonald was hanging out with her 7-year-old son, after an appointment, when lady luck appeared. Her son wanted a snowball, so she stopped to get him one.  While there, they ran into a nearby liquor store to cash in some of her winning scratch-offs, which led to $50,000 win.

With the $20 she won, Noel bought five more tickets and headed home. That evening, the 40-year-old scratched the tickets. Her eyes grew large when she saw that she won a substantial prize, but she wasn’t quite sure how much. “I looked over it about six times, had my neighbor check it and then called my husband and my mom,” she said. “I just could not believe it.” Thinking she had only won $20,000, the registered nurse came to Lottery Headquarters with her mom and son.

“I was floored when Lottery Officials told me it was a $50,000 win,” she smiled. She said since she considers her son, Mason, her lucky charm, she’ll get him the iPad he’s been saving up for. Noel, who is also expecting twins in early spring, said some of the winnings will go towards a new home. “Well, we are sure going to need the space,” she laughed. The rest of the winnings will go into a college savings fund for her kids.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Beverage Barn, located at 3000 Emmorton Rd. in Abingdon.

Interesting enough, Abingdon is also the home of the Lottery’s first Powerball jackpot winners of the $108.8 million jackpot from September 7th.

Public awaits news of their identity

Still reeling from their new multi-millionaire status, an Abingdon couple arrived at Lottery Headquarters to claim the first Powerball jackpot won in Maryland. “We’re thrilled to finally have a big Powerball jackpot win in Maryland,” said Communications Director Carole Everett. “It’s been quite a winning week here at the Maryland Lottery. We also welcomed a $200,000 Powerball winner, as well as a $1 million scratch-off winner.”

Wine World owner Elizabeth LaBruto expressed her delight upon hearing the news, “I’m happy to hear that Maryland sold its first top-tier jackpot ticket, jazzed that it happened in this community and thrilled that Wine World was a part of it.  Good things happen to good people and Wine World customers are the best!” Wine World will receive a $25,000 commission for selling the ticket.

Harford County Woman Gets Lucky with Diamonds & 7s

Lou Ann Keyser - Diamonds & 7's“Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” is a saying that has proven to be true for Lou Ann Keyser.  With 21 chances to win on the Diamonds & 7s scratch-off, she scratched her was to a $100,000 top prize.

One morning last week, Lou Ann made her routine stop at the 7-11 near her house.  She usually purchases the crossword scratch-offs, but that day she wanted to try something new.  The 75-year-old bought one Diamonds & 7s ticket and scratched it in her car.  She had a feeling the ticket was a winner, but wanted to be certain since her eyes aren’t too good without her reading glasses.  She hurried back to her house and asked her daughter to check the ticket.  The lucky winner realized her eyes were not deceiving her as her daughter jumped up and down in excitement after confirming that the ticket was a $100,000 winner.

The Churchville retiree plans to pay her land taxes and save the rest of her winnings. The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11, located at 3901 Pulaski Hwy. in Abingdon.
