Powerball To Become More Powerful Than Ever

Monday, November 21st, 2011

We have some exciting news. In celebration of its 20th birthday, beginning Sunday, January 15, 2012, Powerball will be more Powerful than ever.  Changes to the game will mean bigger starting jackpots, larger prizes and more winners.

For just $2 a play, you will get bigger jackpots, better prizes, more winners and an easier play style.

$2 Powerball Frequently Asked Questions

PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION

The Power Play® add-on feature will also become easier to understand and follow.  Still priced at $1 per play, Power Play will offer fixed prize levels in place of the current multiplier option.  Better yet, the second-tier prize with Power Play will increase from $1 million to $2 million cash.

Step-Down Schedule

To prepare for the new version of Powerball, we will begin a “step-down” on the number of drawings available for Advanced Play purchases. As a reminder, Advance Play allows Maryland Lottery players the opportunity to purchases tickets good for up to 15 consecutive draws in the future. The step-down will begin on Saturday, November 26th after the drawing. The number of Advance play draws available for purchase will decrease by one each draw night until the game change occurs in January.

After the close of the Saturday, January 14, 2012 drawing, players will not be able to buy Powerball tickets for the next draw or any future draws. Powerball sales for the new $2 Powerball games will begin on Sunday morning, January 15, 2012 and the first drawing will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. If there is no winner in the drawing on Saturday, January 14, the jackpot will keep rolling – but with higher increases per roll. If there is a jackpot winner on January 14 the jackpot for Wednesday, January 18 will be an estimated $40 million!

Dwcoleman: Winning numbers have always been – and will continue to be – purely the luck of the draw and a matter of random chance. Numbers drawn for each of the Lottery’s daily drawing games are arbitrary. Every time a ball is drawn, it is an independent and unique event, completely unaffected by what ball was drawn seconds, hours, days, or weeks earlier. In addition, each ball drawn has the same exact chance of being drawn as any other ball in the machine, at any point in time.

Powerball should have stayed in DC and MD only, but greed decided to include all these other states.   Look at the disaster now.

All the complainers need to get a grip. It doesn’t matter how many times you have played in the past, your chances have been the same for each drawing. This is a game, remember. The greatest probability is that you will have donated your money to the state. But one thing they got right is the slogan “You have to play to win”. Nobody won a lottery without somebody buying a ticket. So I will buy my tickets and see if I happen to get lucky, because luck is what this is all about. Play sensibly and don’t spend more than you can afford to donate.

To all those who “like really big jackpots”. If you need to win more than a 20 million dollar jackpot… you have more problems than money will fix.

I run a lottery group and we’ve decided that we’ll switch to Mega-Millions. We’ve hit for a collective $200+ but now, with the increase, they’re looking to get it back.

I am an avid player of powerball and the other similar games, and it is with pleasure that I would like to bring a suggestion that is widely discussed among my friends (avid lottery players too!) to your attention.  Rather than handing over all the accumulated prize, say for instance now $ 40 million (01/15/2012) or possibly $ 200 million plus in a month or two TO A WINNER, we would strongly suggest that you program your computer, so that there could be 20 or possibly 100 winners of $ 2 million each as the case may be.  If this idea is being implemented, each draw could create scores possibly hundreds of middle class families as powerball or mega winners EVERY WEEK.  Believe it or not, YOU WOULD NOT NEED ANY MORE TIMELY AND SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISMENT THAN THAT.

A million or two dollars of winnings will CERTAINLY change the life style of any winner(s) positively without creating a monster out of a single winner as it has mostly been the case.  If you, as semi-government officials, really care about the well being of our citizens our suggestion would eventually work to the very satisfaction of millions of players.  Given the current economic situation, more and more people are spending their last dollar on lottery, and the game is creating ONE or TWO extremely wealthy monsters as the winner(s) of a game YET, AT THE EXPENSE OF NEWLY IMPOVERISHED MILLIONS!   THANK YOU.

I started playing the Powerball at $2.00 per game, because it bothered me to think that for just a buck more, I could win up to 5x my winnings of $200,000.00. Not saying that $200,000.00 isn’t a lot but when you have a house and bills costing more, it’s not enough.
Good luck to all of us.

The geographic locations of our winners are random. There is no way to predict where the winners will be. However, research tells us that more winners come from areas of the State in which more people are playing. Please take a look at our winners stories. There you’ll see that we have winners from all over the State.

want people to play more? make the powerball value 10$. jackpot prize doesn’t need to be increased as it as it will increase over time. play for a persons chance to actually win a little something and not to good ol’ american greed.
