Laurel Man’s Date Night Ends with a $50,000 Win [VIDEO]

Faithful Lottery player takes home $50,000

Rodney Harris, a retired military man from Laurel, has always been rather lucky when it came to playing the Lottery. So lucky in fact, that he confidently told his boss when he was hired a year ago that he would need a day off to collect a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top-prize. Sure enough, a little over a year later, the 46-year-old had the chance to inform his boss that he needed the time off to claim his winnings.

Rodney and his wife Monica were having a date night at Red Lobster when he decided to check that evening’s winning numbers. Monica thought there was something incredibly wrong when she saw her husband jump out of his seat. “I really thought he was having a heart attack,” she laughed. “He just jumped up and fell to the floor so quickly!”

After recovering from the shock, Rodney explained that they had won the Bonus Match 5 top prize. “Once things settled down, I called my brother and then my boss,” the Laurel man told Lottery officials. Rodney told his boss that he was going to need that day off that they talked about last year when he was hired. “He couldn’t believe it.”

For now the couple, who has been married for five years, plans to pay a few bills, help Rodney’s brother and go on a few trips. “I had the chance to travel a lot when I was in the military, but I’d love to take some trips with Monica – Wherever she wants to go!” he said before turning to his wife for a kiss. The couple is currently looking into a trip to Canada. The winning ticket was bought at Rodney’s favorite store, Xtra Mart Fuel at 3497 Fort Meade Rd in Laurel.

Frostburg Man Wins $100,000 and $10,000 Prizes Two Days Apart [VIDEO]

Wins on Diamonds and Cash Blast scratch-offs

Jesse Broadwater, Sr. had a good deal of Maryland Lottery luck last week as he scratched his way to $500 and $10,000 scratch-off wins. Those two prizes paled in comparison to his first brush with good fortune, a $100,000 Diamonds scratch-off win.

“I took a few Diamonds scratch-off tickets to work with me to play on my break,” said the 58-year-old, who works the late shift at a local paper mill. “When I scratched the winner I saw the $100,000 prize right away, but couldn’t believe it.”

Even more unbelievable, Jesse’s luck continued when he won two more large prizes. Only two days later, he scored $10,000 on a Cash Blast scratch-off and $500 on another game. “When I called my son after the $10,000 ticket he refused to believe me,” Jesse said.

This lucky winner knows exactly what he will be doing with his Lottery winnings. “Retirement’s only a few years away for me – this will make it a much happier time,” Jesse told Lottery officials. Jesse purchased his $100,000 winner from Powell’s Grocery at 15915 Lower George’s Creek Road in Lonaconing and his $10,000 Cash Blast ticket from the Sheetz store at 10601 New George’s Creek Road in Frostburg.

Third Middletown Resident Claims Big Lottery Prize This Year [VIDEO]

Wins $675,000 Multi-Match Jackpot

There must be something in the water in the small town of Middletown. For the third time this year, a Middletown resident has claimed a large Maryland Lottery prize. The most recent winner, Bruce Barnhard, won Monday night’s $675,000 Multi-Match jackpot. He can now be added to the growing list of 2013 big winners from the Frederick County town. Last Friday, Middletown resident David Cline claimed a $50,000 The Price is Right scratch-off top prize, and in January, a 34-year-old anonymous man from the same town claimed a $1 million Powerball second-tier prize.

Barnhard was on his way home from work on Monday when he decided to stop for a drink and a Multi-Match ticket. He went about his business as usual the next day, stopping to play Keno. While at the store, the 54-year-old remembered that he had a Multi-Match ticket to check. “As soon as the machine scanned the ticket and I saw I had to go to Lottery headquarters, I had a feeling it was something good,” said Bruce. “I looked the numbers up as soon as I got home and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

His wife of 25 years, Eileen, didn’t believe her husband when he told her they had won the jackpot. “He’s always joking around with me and I really thought this was a joke,” she told Lottery officials. “We called our daughters and son-in-law the next day and told them the good news.”

The Middletown couple plans to invest the majority of their winnings, but mentioned helping their daughter, Sarah. “We want to help our daughter with her tuition so she can concentrate a little more on school and not have to worry about graduating with a lot of debt.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Stup’s Market at 5550 Mountville Road in Adamstown. The retailer will receive a $1,000 commission for selling the winning ticket. This was the fourth Multi-Match jackpot win this year. The last three jackpots have been hit in Western Maryland.

Middletown Man Plows into $50,000 Win [VIDEO]

Second Middletown resident to claim big prize this past month

If you don’t live in Middletown, you may want to move there. When David Cline took a break from plowing snow earlier this week, he became the second Middletown resident to win a big Lottery prize in just over a month.

David, a lifelong Middletown resident and avid Lottery player, purchased some scratch-offs on Monday, taking them outside the store to scratch. While scratching The Price is Right ticket, he revealed something he had not seen before — a $50,000 prize.

“I kept looking at the ticket and then I ran back inside the store to have the clerk check it,” said the 55-year-old who then rushed home to show his family. “I feel like it’s too good to be true. I’m so excited!”

After getting some advice from his good friend Mike, the State Highway Administration employee decided that he should first pay off his debt with his winnings. Once that’s done, he can then celebrate.

“I’ve worked for the state for over 30 years. Now I can retire a little more comfortably.”

David’s winning ticket was purchased at 7-11, located at 7729 Sundays Ln. in Frederick. In February, a 34-year-old anonymous Middletown man claimed a $1 million Powerball prize.

“Lousy Numbers” Deliver Multi-Match Jackpot to Eastern Shore Player [VIDEO]

Berlin Woman Claims $700,000 Prize

Ruth Carpenter visited Lottery Headquarters today carrying a Multi-Match ticket good for $700,000.  The long drive from Berlin – just outside of Ocean City – brought an end to the 36 hours of nervous excitement since realizing she’d won Monday night’s jackpot.

Ruth, who owns and operates a taxi service, told Lottery officials that she enjoys buying a lottery ticket or two with lunch several times a week to add some fun to her demanding work schedule.

When she saw Monday’s winning Multi-Match numbers, though, she wasn’t happy.  “They looked like lousy numbers.  Then I looked at my ticket.”

When asked if she’d be taking a vacation after her big win, she replied, “A vacation?  I live at the beach.”   Ruth’s lottery luck met up with her at Whisker’s Bar & Grill at 11070 Cathell Road in Berlin.
