Gold Medal Winner Takes the Medal Madness Podium [VIDEO]

Wins Medal Madness $250,000 Top Prize

Glen Burnie resident, Kenny Smith, was at Lowe’s shopping for his home improvement company suitably named, Kenny Smith’s Improvement Services, when he got a call from his wife.  She informed him that he had a special delivery at the house from the Maryland Lottery.  After hanging up, she went online to mdlottery.com where she discovered that her spouse had won $250,000 in the Lottery’s Medal Madness promotion.  She quickly called him back and told him the good news.  Kenny’s entry was drawn from over 100,000 entries received in the Medal Madness promotion, which required players to collect bronze, medal and gold logos on their Lottery terminal tickets.

Kenny said that he was rather calm after learning that he was a quarter of a million dollars richer and continued to get everything he needed to complete his home improvement jobs for the day.  “I had to finish what I started,” he said. He was also still a bit skeptical about his win.  “Until I see the check it’s not real,” he said. “I believe show me the money.”

Kenny who is originally from North Carolina, says he may use some of his winnings to go to Myrtle Beach. “I’m going to get a hotel and just look out at the ocean.”  Until making his trip, he intends to continue buying houses and fixing them up. “That’s what I do,” said Kenny.  “I like people to live like I live, comfortably.  Referring to his prize, the Gold Medal winner added, “This right here is a truly a blessing.”

Medal Madness Promotion’s Bronze Medal Winner Claims $25,000 Prize

Shawn Davis - Medal Madness

Shawn Davis and her husband pose with their $25,000 Medal Madness win.

The summer games may have ended, but the winning continued at Maryland Lottery headquarters when a still-surprised Shawn Davis arrived on Friday afternoon to claim her Bronze Medal prize. Shawn’s envelope was drawn from over 100,000 entries received in the Medal Madness promotion, which required players to collect bronze, medal and gold logos on their Lottery terminal tickets.

Shawn, an avid Lottery player, said that she was initially suspicious when she received a letter from the Lottery via UPS informing her that she had won.  “I had completely forgotten that I entered the contest,” she said.  “I also didn’t think you would send a letter about it!”  When Lottery officials told Davis that she hadn’t put a phone number on her entry, the details came flooding back: “Now I remember…I didn’t think I had enough space for my phone number so I just put my address on there.”

Shawn, who was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by her husband of 14 years, said that the letter didn’t state the amount of money she had won making her further suspicious.  “I checked the Lottery’s website for my name before believing that the letter was real.” She said.  “When I saw my name and how much I won, I was stunned!”  Home on vacation from work when discovering her good fortune, Shawn was able to come to the Lottery’s Claim Center the very next day.  “It was meant to be,” she said.

The lucky winner and her husband who both work for the state have two adult children and two teenage grandchildren. When asked what they were planning on doing with the money, they said in unison, “Put it in the bank.”  Shawn added, “I am going to take my husband out to a restaurant, though.  I’m thinking Bonefish Grill.”  Her husband replied, “Nope, a big IHOP breakfast is good for me.”  Shawn then jumped in, “I think we can afford to do both.”

Pick 3 Pays Off Big for Players

Triples Break the Bank Last Night

Lottery officials are reporting that last night’s Pick 3 results of 7-7-7 broke the bank – and then some.  The better-than $1.6 million prize payout was more than four times the amount wagered by players on the drawing.

“Triples and quadruples are always popular with our players,” said Carole Everett, the Lottery’s Director of Communications.  “Whenever they’re drawn we expect significant payouts.”  Last night’s Pick 3 marks the third time this year for triples.  The last occurrence was June 13th when 2-2-2 was drawn.

Triples Break the Bank Last Night

According to Lottery officials, last night’s Pick 3 results of 2-2-2 broke the bank. The better-than $2.6 million prize payout was more than six times the amount wagered by players on the drawing. A happy night, indeed, for the holders of the 10,817 Pick 3 tickets who correctly matched the winning combination.

“Triples and quadruples have always been popular with our players,” said Carole Everett, the Lottery’s Director of Communications. “We know that whenever they come up, we’re in line for a significant payout.” Wednesday evening’s Pick 3 marks the second time this year for triples. The last occurrence was on April 25 when 0-0-0 was drawn.

Cecil Reddick wins $250,000 Logo Hunt Promotion grand prize!

Wins Logo Hunt Promotion Grand Prize

When Cecil Reddick’s sister told him that she had something to show him on the computer Wednesday evening, he was a little concerned.   Little did he know that what he was about to see next would change his life: Cecil was the Maryland Lottery’s $250,000 grand-prize winner for the $2 Million Logo Hunt Promotion.

“I couldn’t believe it,” the 57-year-old told Lottery officials.  “I thought it was a joke.  I even called my other sister and had her look it up on her computer to make sure it was really true.”

The Baltimore truck driver hasn’t decided what he is going to do with all of his winnings, but he knows he will take his mom out to a nice dinner for her upcoming 80th birthday.  He would also like to put some of his winnings into savings.  Cecil, who only submitted two entries, was lucky enough to have been randomly selected from more than 63,000 entries.

The $2 Million Logo Hunt Promotion ran from February 27 through April 1, with the drawing taking place on April 10.  Throughout the promotion, Lottery players randomly received one of three Lottery logos on their ticket.  After collecting all three logos on non-winning tickets, players mailed them in for the chance to win cash prizes.  In addition to Cecil’s $250,000 prize, other big winners include Larry Hunter from Camp Springs who won $100,000, Gail Dorsey from Laurel who won $50,000 and 50 other Maryland Lottery players who won $1,000 each.
